I betrayed Bass and bought a Guitar!

I don’t know if it’s correct, but I don’t do that at all. I find it very weird actually.

ME TOO. It just feels so unnatural.

Maybe it’s just some kind of help for those who struggle to keep a rythm while playing a rythmic pattern ? Honestly I don’t remember seing a guitar player doing this, and I would necessarily notice if someone did. Not talking about the teachers but about the players.

Maybe. It actually seems like wasted motion to me, and it makes strumming patterns way more difficult. So far anyway.

I am so glad it’s not just me here

For me it makes it easier, and agree 100% with what @Reasonably_Happy said.

One common strum pattern, called the universal strum by many, goes DOWN DOWN/UP UP DOWN/UP.
I just tried to do it without constant motion and could not do it.
With constant motion no problem.

Some of the Rick Beato guitar vids are worth a look-I would like a course by him

I saw Doc Watson play once, and his right hand was in constant steady motion while notes just flew off his guitar. I’ve seen many “greats” over the years, but Doc is right there at the top

Sometimes it can look like they are but they actually aren’t. Like here; he’s not doing it (and I think it would be difficult to play this song that way in fact), but it still looks kind of like like he is.

(not saying I can play this either; I tried but it’s way way beyond me, like maybe years. Also I find that Em->Bm transition, probably the easiest part of the song, insanely hard for some reason )

It’s not that easy, you have to know what you do with barre chords. And the tempo is not slow.

Also I’m wondering about this “constant motion” thing. Do I look like I do that ? Because I’m not  or maybe the natural accents / ghost notes makes it look like this ? or maybe those accents / ghost notes are natural because they are actually a part of some kind of constant motion ? don’t know.

(very imperfect playing but I’m doing this while drinking my first coffee of the day )
(the slow part at the end is to show the fingering I naturally use for those chords, 'hope it may help in some way)

Oh cool! Thanks man

Just like the other guy, I can tell you’re strumming naturally (well, naturally for me anyway.) But unless you were looking for it it would also look like constantly in motion, even though it isn’t.

Looks solid to me! The motion looks comfortable which says a lot. In time it’s just learning how to engage and disengage the playing dynamically. Just like you do on bass. Not every note is delivered with the same energy. Even when we’re plucking notes you can employ the same lean in and back off efforts. I actually find my bass playing is unique in that I pluck the same dynamic I would strum instead of straight ahead notes to the finish.

Just a quick noodling with my freshly mounted Strat, hopefully played in the Jeff Beck style for the part where I’m trying to learn how to use those damn tremolo  As I’m mostly a Tele player, I’ve very rarely used a tremolo and I’m really not used to it.

This video is some kind of teaser : I will post a longer one very soon, to show the different pickups.

Have you ever noticed Gilmour using the black Strat? He had the tremolo cut down to about 4 inches and actually uses it a lot with his palm (the crease). That seems like it would be a little easier to deal with.

Not really, I should look at that. But I like that the tremolo arm is very soft, so the lenght helps. The main problem is that I have to find a way to keep the arm in its position, like on a Floyd Rose.

I’m a beginner with a tremolo.

A master of the tremolo was Mikio Fujioka, who sadly passed away at 36. Check out how he holds the trem bar as he plays (reddish guitar)

Wow that’s a nice neck on the strat. Cool color too.
