I betrayed Bass and bought a Guitar!

And doweled and glued up. I got squeeze out from the crack when I clamped it up so I’m optimistic about getting a good joint.

Going down to clamp town!!! Good luck man!

I’m trying to make up with quantity for my being too lazy to cut a tapered shim piece for parallel clamp faces :person_shrugging:

A song and an album cover image for your endeavors.

All done! Fun little project.

Nice! Well done.

Only tip I have is you missed the chance to dowel the other holes. Here’s my similar project, if you expand the image you can see the repair (and the big scratch I added ):

Something to consider the next time it’s maintenance day for it. Works better if you drill them out a little first so the toothpick is a good fit.

For mine if I had OCD it would be screaming about the one tuner hole Yamaha had drilled about a half mm low for some reason. Not nearly motivated enough to fix that though. This is the absolute low end Pacifica (about $80) so no surprise it wasn’t perfect.

Well I didn’t think they would bother me. I’m changing my mind since they’re all a different distance from the edge of the headstock and from the new tuners. I’ll probably do it at some point, but my thinking coming in is that I wasn’t going to spend a whole lot of time and money on this guitar. Then I promptly bought $70 tuners and replaced them

That retails for $220 in the states btw, since I looked at them when I was definitely not guitar shopping

They are more here too, new. Mine was $80 used. New it’s closer to $180.

Sound test time!

I kept it simple with the recording setup so it’s just an iPhone recording both the video and sound. I will have to experiment with micing this amp in the future.

The different pickups positions are interesting, the neck pickups sounds quite like a single coil actually. Maybe the two coils are wired in parallel or something ? The output level seems very low.

Also, very nice amp ! And a lot of nice tones overall

Yeah I wonder if they are wired split.

That amp is incredible

Should also say you’ve kept up the skills, at least with the chords there. Better than me anyway, I am still in the “let yourself suck” phase

It is kind of cool how far you can get with just bass skills + power chords though. Enough to start making very cool sounds, and that’s enough to hook you. Or at least was for me.

That’s worth exploring! The wires are pretty messy in the cavity but would be worth checking out before doing an outright replacement. I have been looking at a Seymour Duncan 59 for the replacement option for something that can offer bass response and not be too high output. I won’t move on that for a couple weeks though as I have some other projects coming up.

Thanks man! Apparently this thing sat in a church closet for a couple decades here in the Atlanta area. When I picked it up from Sam Ash it still had some of the original papers in the cabinet including a Warranty card with a May 1985 date of sale handwritten on it.

I’m starting to think I’ve found the perfect guitar for this amp! :metal:

I’ve forgotten how much I knew! I spent many hours trying to emulate James Hetfield in my teens… My scales and lead guitar still need a lot of work!

With that said, I still have 3 more Mayer Hawthorne songs to finish from the album I’ve been working on before I dive too far into Metal territory.

This is an excellent pickup. I had a SH-1n '59 and liked it a lot.

Currently playing around with a Nazgul/Sentient, @terb likes them and listening online I liked the pair a lot, once I get it installed I’ll let you know. If Laurent recommended them I assume they are good.

The SD 59 is a very good pickup, but my advice in this case would be to keep the current pickups. They sound good and interesting, and it’s a part of the personnality of your guitar.

If you really want to change the neck pickup for a SD, you might want to know that my absolute favorite humbucker of all times is the SD Sentient.

You can get a plugin with ToneX models of four metal giants, including a 5150 and a SLO-100, for free right now (time limited).

If you own Amplitube you have these or equivalents already but nice for those who do not.

I’ve been wanting to play guitar for a while. Yesterday I ordered a 2002 Tom Delong Squier.

Another long learning journey ahead of me. I’ll let you know how it goes :flushed:

I am about to betray bass and buy another guitar…
I have recently got a bit more interested in learning guitar and in particular a bit of Blues.
So naturally I want a large body semi-hollow.
I can’t afford an Epiphone or a Gibson but I have got a couple of Artist guitars and they seem to do the job so here is what I am looking at:
Artist Cherry58DLX Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar w/ Bullbucker PickupsCHERRY58DLX (artistguitars.com.au)

I’ll get it with a hard case because it will be going in the car.
Best part is I just sold another guitar to a mate which will partly fund it

My cherry hollow body should arrive today or tomorrow.
I feel bad, I have been trying to play guitar for the last week or so and my basses are being neglected.
I have a Jam on Saturday so I need to go through the list over the next coupla nights.
