Ah ha ha ha ha… You are not fully committed. You left Offer Up and Reverb off the list.
LOL, I’ve been hanging around here with the best teachers!
I’ve gotta learn to play first!
That is not a rule I have EVER heard before…neverever.
+1
Playing bass and collecting basses, doesn’t necessarily go hand in hand, as logic would suggest, but GAS certainly knows no logic.
Late to the party but my take and as I have said in a few other posts, a “wise” person I know once told me, “Everyone needs 12 basses, more if you actually play the bass!!” LoL
Even though I just started playing in 2020, I have 5 basses, play 4 of them regularly. I had 6, but let one go to a new home as I wasn’t giving it enough attention. And, I want more /!\ as I gotta catch up to @T_dub and @TNKA36.
PS - the 5th which doesn’t get any love from me I gave to the oldest grandson as it was a $100 used bass I bought to start B2B while GC had the bass I bought on backorder. @John_E is correct, GC is having trouble and as such isn’t shipping very fast/or at all. Thank heavens for Sweetwater who is very successfully helping me satisfy my GAS or MBD…now I gotta go look through that catalog again! Peace.
Yeah, but we have to catch up to Al @Al1885 , and at @John_E "s pace, he is liable to lap us soon too.
True
Luckily I am space constrained…unless I figure out a way too…… hahahaha
The last bass I truly have my sights set on is a Rick, and have set that for next year.
There are a few oddball others that are very interesting to me, but nothing yet that makes me want to pull the trigger.
I would LOVE a Fender ASE hollow body, these are really cool sounding but hard to find for a decent price outside Japan. They have a P and a piezo and really sound cool.
The shop in NJ had a variant of this but someone ripped out the original electronics and made it a passive bass, and it had a hockey stick variant headstock which was just wrong.
I would like a nicer 5 string one day, but not yet sure what, but that would be a replace vs. an add.
I still keep eyeing this Squire as it is still for sale dammit.
I have read though that the neck is crazy wide.
It’s only $320, has great reviews.
Also a guy nearby selling a Squire Bass VI, which might be interesting but seems like a whole other learning curve and I have no idea why I would want it other than its cool.
Ugh, I am a sucker for a good deal
Then of course there are those basses that I don’t even know exist yet!
Just built a shed, like Al @Al1885 did.
Me too @John_E and I will throw in a EB MM Stingray Special to round out my collection.
I just don’t know though since I like the narrow’er necks (e.g. on a Jazz Bass) as they fit my hands (short fingers) better. I don’t know if I will ever pull those triggers until I can go physically play them which I have not yet.
Oh man I love that semi hollow. I love binding, and as difficult it is to live with I love piezo pickups.
I’m so close to getting the bass vi a few times. I’m just not sure about string spacing as I’ve never seen one in person.
John, are the spacing close to 5 string bass or narrower?
Super narrow. They say you can only play with a pick. Not fingers.
I don’t find my stingray special neck chunky at all. Some of my p’s are thicker I think. The Ray4 feels chunkier. The special’s neck is Devine. Go try one!
Ditto. These are amazing tone machines.
Hey John @John_E ,
I gotta get me one of these, thats what i will be looking for when i can get back to Japan, I’m Sure Howard @howard will be able to point me in the right direction.
Cheers Brian
Get two….I like presents.
There are only 2 I see for sale right now, one on ebay for $1757 (way too much $) and one for $1450 from Russia (makes me leery that it will ever show up).
The only other one I’ve seen is the hockey stick headstock model in jersey with the very bad electronics mods and extra hole drilled.
I am trolling everywhere looking for one, but if @howard can find one in Japan for sale I would be all over it.
Depending on the year you have to put in a Cafe Walter buffer as Fender screwed up the electronics and the P and piezo pickups don’t blend right, but its a $50 mod that makes it an amazing bass. Fender fixed the issue in later models though… The Cafe Walter guy is super helpful with all this stuff if you do end up getting one @TNKA36.
The funny thing is, it was marketed as a heavy metal bass!
They look pretty rare. I did a quick search and found a few PBAC-100 and PBAC-1000, which look similar or the same but not specifically marked ASE, and all sold.
PBAC-100 is essentially the same thing.
When the ASE branding which had the lightening bolt “metal” S on it didn’t pan out I think they switched it.
Not sure about the 1000, have to research
From what I read on talkbass, people hang onto them if they have them.
