One of them is fretless but it’s not clear it’s per model number.
That seems almost impossible, considering the Ray4 has a 1.5" nut width, and the Stingray Special has a 1.69" nut width (although some places I have seen list them as 1.625", but as far as the MM website, they are 1.6875" to be exact).
Are you talking about the neck profile, as I think they both have a Modern C shape, but can’t be certain. Plus, you have a BFR, so the neck might not be standard stingray.
Sure could be the profile. And the BFR part could make a difference. I’ll do some measuring when near it again.
I think I am going to look into a trade with the New Jersey guy for a bass I am not seeing in my future here very long to offset the costs. I looked into electronics swapout and Bartolini has just what I need for ~$105, and, I need a new mod project…
The project thing is quite addictive isn’t it @John_E
I was on eBay last night perusing new bits for the maple p bass body that’s en route.
I’m thinking if the wood grain is as good as the pictures I may try the clear pick guard option
Why not NO pick guard? Only thing that could happen is, you can relic the thing a little quicker. Unless it is already predrilled, that would not look great with holes, but you could just add the screws like Al did on the Ray34 (but may be ordering clear for it, IDK - on a Ray, thats just wrong ---------for me).
Hmmmmmm
Now you’ve gone and thrown a spanner in the works @T_dub
I get the point for Clear pick guards, but, I would only use them for 2 reasons.
1 - the body is so beautiful, and the pick guard does it no justice (not the case on Rays IMO) - and it is to replace the original pick guard
2 - If the bass meets condition 1, and I really want to protect the bass for resale value, but if that were the case, I would probably play something else.
YMMV
I see your logic @T_dub .
I was going to sell the bass on but after my better half telling me I’d end up spending so much time on it why sell it I’ll be the proud owner of a second p bass by the looks of it
I might even get a St Andrew’s cross ( Scottish flag) or even a Southern Cross ( Aussie thing) for it .
Southern Cross would be cool!
Sonds cool
The Southern Cross is a great idea, and do the bass in Aussie green with a gold pickguard.
After my last experience with painting basses I’m very reluctant to paint one ever again
Im in love .
