I received an email this morning from Bass Freaks SPRL in Belgium. They are a (the?) Dingwall dealer in western Europe. They are scheduled to receive 2-3 4-string and 2 to 3 5-string Gloss Metallic Black SP1’s. That color was my favorite of the 4, so I bought a 4-string immediately, before that small first lot disappeared. I’m still going to have Lignum build me a 5-string version of the Super J/Super P, so I went with the 4. They quoted 4-5 weeks, so it should arrive well before my Joe Dart 3.
Awesome!
You’re not helping
Sheesh…Christmas, birthday, anniversary and what-not all rolled into one
But, yeah, I also got that email from Pierre this morning… dangerous stuff! Congrats!
That’s a very cool bass!
But aren’t your arms too short for a long scale?
LOL. One reason I like the Super P and Super J is that they’re medium scale. The G strings on the 4 & 5 are 32", and increase by 0,75", so the E string is 34,25" and the B string is 35", but don’t have that long reach because of the fanned frets and angle of the bridge. At least, that’s what I’m counting on. I don’t think it will be that big of a jump from my shorties.
I’ve drooled over the Super J he has in stock, but it’s over 7K €. I can buy this Super P AND a Lignum version of the 5-string Super J AND have 2K € left over.
Can’t argue with your arithmetics
That’s how I used to buy cars when I was younger. I’d test drive all of the top line models and then “settle” for the “bargain” one I was going to buy anyway. But…I had some extra fun doing it!
Congrats!!
I really want the white one….
What’s the difference between this SP-1 to the Super P. why is it nearly half the price of the Super P.
If the Super P is in the same price range I’d buy this one and make it a Pino Relic.
The Fender custom shop wanted $4500 (last year, now it’s $5800) too for the Pino, and
Last year the Joe Darts shipped early. Just saying.
Nice bass
The Super P is built in Canada, the SP-1 in China, and then shipped to Canada for QA and any finishing required, before being shipped the dealers / customer. All the Dingwalls in the £1,800 to £2,800 (ish) range (think D-Roc, Combustion, NG, JT, and now SP-1) follow this route. And they are excellent! They also bring Dingwall ownership to those that cannot afford the Canadian made instruments!
Edit: But then what’s the actual difference in tone or feel? I have know idea!!
I think it’s Indonesia?
You’re right according to notreble.com: The Dingwall SP1 is made with hybrid manufacturing between Indonesia and Canada. It’s available now with prices of $2,510 for the four-string and $2,605 for the five-string.
Well the ebony fingerboard will feel and sound more delicious than maple for funk and R&B for me. I love the series and parallel switch for sure.
I stand corrected!
I tend to run my Combustion in series, there is a noticeable kick to the tone in that mode. It’s cool!
