when I play steady eighth-note chugs, I notice that my timing is not completely consistent. Sometimes I briefly speed up and then slow down again. Also, not every note sounds exactly the same, every now and then, I hit one badly or with a different amount of force.
What are the best exercises to improve both my timing and the consistency of my attack?
Need to find and apply the pulse to it. I’d add the accent on first and third or every other note. When you get more advanced you can then make everything even which is very difficult.
I recall one of the exercises was chugging to a beat/metronome, clicking it off while still chugging, then clicking it back in to see if you’re still on the beat. Obviously a foot pedal/button is ideally needed.
