Got them today.
Sound great to my ears. But my ears are old, so YMMV.
For instance, I really can’t tell the difference with the impedance adapter inline. Fit is good. Lots of tips, as you can see. Wore them for an hour without ear fatigue.
Got them today.
To me it was a bit duller. Like pressing the Dolby button. I know you know what that is on a cassette player,
I’ve seen people joking that the real product is the impedance adapter and you get some free headphones with it
Cool! A choice of tips turns out to be the best feature on in-ears
@sshoihet
Did you or are you preordering the timeless 2? I did a couple of days ago since they gave us $20 off
No, I’m really happy with my original timeless for now so I’m sticking with them. Let me know what you think of them when you get them
I can adjust to most tunings so the biggest thing to me is fit and the timeless fit me great! Nice solid build too, I really enjoy using them. I like my Truthear hola but they definitely feel cheap.
It arrived this morning I only put a few songs through. I only tested the standard (installed) cap it looks like it comes with 4 different cap set. I’d love more sub bass but the mid bass is excellent and the clarity is exceptional.
I’ll live with it for a few weeks and will report back.
Sweet! I look forward to hearing more about them. I like that they decided to delay the release rather than get something out faster that wasn’t as “good” as it could be. Looks like it has some nice features I like the tunable nozzles, what is the case like, it’s hard to tell from the photos?
I like the planar “soft” bass, it’s not super prominent but it’s really tight! I usually use the apps Wavelet or Poweramp EQ to tame the treble and add a bit more low end on certain genres. The Timeless is the first IEM/headphone where I find them noticeable sibilant on some music.
I’ll live vicariously through you for now and just put on some Steely Dan, Aja is one of my favourite albums for enjoying great IEMs/headphones
It looks and feels like a milled aluminum with the pyramid grid design that match the IEMs. I like it although unlike plastic like material when you open and close there’s noise,
I have not tried the nozzles just yet. I’m still in the middle of tip selections. The process that usually takes a few minutes but this one has dragged on for a few days now.
I love the favorite included the clear silicone with read core as it offers the best balance. The problem is that it kept coming off and stuck in my ears. Then the search for the alternative began.
The only thing that came close when it comes to bass balance is the foam tips but in general I don’t want to go directly to foam tips because it unnatuarlly blocks out to much ambient noise.
Sounds-vise, I’m enjoying the Timeless II very much it has this freakishly clean and clear presence and great punchy mid bass. It works really well with the type of music I listen to live performance from Funk to Rock like Cory Wong, Vulfpeck, Clapton, Marcus, Jaco, Micheal Mcdonald.
I’ll update the progress later
Edit: sorry forgot the pictures @sshoihet
Any updates to add to this, Al?? Thanks!
I’ve been spending a lot of time on my IEMs. I’m still recovering from my eyes condition. I grew my audio collection a bit and decided to stick with the brand I like, FIIO. I bought quite a few IEMs and headphones, as well as DAC amp and dongles.
Love the technical aspect of it. I just love the BA bass when it’s done right.
Here’s my latest GAS
FIIO FX15 : 1 Dynamic, 1 BA, 4 Electrostatic. Super detail and almost holographic sound stage.
FIIO FA19 : 10 Balanced amatures. Pure Blissed.
I ordered the FT7 headphones hopefully it will arrive soon.
@joergkutter it’s funny I was typing this post and I saw your reply,
I finally settled on the Silver sound tube on the Timeless 2 with the SpinFit tips. It offers the most balanced and most an energetic tone. The Gold tube is a bit shouty and the side firing tubes are just abominations,
Shoot me questions if you have any questions about FIIO, I became quite an enthusiast of the brand.
That is funny! Thanks so much for the timely reply… I am considering some options right now.
Very sorry to hear. At least, I hope, the trajectory is looking good!?!? Fingers crossed!
What’s your preference? What are you considering right now?
I’m more like a gearhead (what a surprise ) and not after a specific sound goal. I don’t have “one” perfect sound but rather enjoy and appreciate different flavor different IEMs offer on the same playlist.
I haven’t tried the cheapo CRA+, but for 47 €, I like the CCA C12. I bought the gold logo version.
And, yes, there’s a funny typo. Bass driving, not bass diving.
How do you like them?
One thing for sure I’d changed the cable, it’s a tangle mess, plus I prefer balanced 4.4 mm. I have the ZS10 it’s not bad for music but not for playing for sure too much treble for bass practicing.
I wound up picking these up after my dog ate my Truthear Crinacle IEMs.
Without doubt, the sound is big. It’s meant for playing bass, not for audiophile listening.
I really don’t know anything/much about IEM, so I am trying to get smarter by reading and listening to you gearheads
I really only have two criteria:
And, yes, I realize the latter part is very subjective, but, as a bass player, providing a transparent sound for lower frequencies (not necessarily all the string fundamental frequencies though) is important.
I would use them primarily as an alternative to headphones (at home) and whenever I might get into a live playing situation where they’d come in handy.
As a FIIO brand enthusiast, I highly recommend a few affordable models and they perform way above the price point.
FD11
Single Dynamic IEM super awesome signature covering full spectrum of tone and great detail for such an affordable IEM. Very easy to drive and all day fatigue free listening.
FH11
A few more bucks same design and you get 1 dynamic driver and 1 balanced armature driver for a blissful listening experience modern U shape, tight punching bass beautiful mid and satisfying treble all rolled up in a double cream smooth delicious delivery. Big sound stage, highly detailed. It cost me $30 an it was the best $30 ever spent on an IEM.
JD10
Even more affordable offering from FIIO. A little more affordable than FD11 more V shape signature (highs and low recessed mid) for all day satisfying listening. I own a $1000 IEM and still reach for the JD1 from time to time.
I don’t own a JH3 because when I ordered the price went up and on top of that the tariffs just kicked in and AliExpress charges over double for import tax. I’ll wait on that one.
JH5
Fo the same price as the JH3 you can get the JH5 1 dynamic driver and 4 BAs it’s hitting way above its weight when it comes to bass and details. The tuning is a bit show off-ish as it pushes the mids and trebles a bit more to add sparkles. If it’s not a song on your favorite list, you’ll love the tuning, not natural but super awesome.
FH3 this is my ebay guy. He’s from FIIO. he handles all of their warranty issues in, well at least SoCal but I think the US. Since I’m his hopefully best customer who pays cash, I usually get more discounts. Bonus, he lives about 10 minutes from me.
This was my gateway into FIIO. Before this it was $1000 plus, plus the $250 cost of Audiologist visit for ear modeling, custom molded IEM for musicians and they were not even that good.
It’s very good for both music listening and performing. Mild V shape, very detail from 1 dynamic and 2 BAs. I still spend hours listening on this IEM. I also have the variation of this one called the FH E the collaboration with the infamous Crinacle. FHE has better tuning with deeper bass better mid and satisfying treble.
FD3 PRO
It comes with awesome upgrade cables for just a few bucks more. Quintessential single dynamic driver IEM, great design though I’d suggest that you get the latest one the FD15 as it has more mature tuning an it’s very natural. Another honorable mention is the JD7 which looks exactly the same as the FA7s.
FA7s and this is my guys price
it’s my favorite IEM. 6 BAs drivers. It’s my first love of the BA bass, deliciously fast and transparent with super wide and satisfying sound stage. It’s my favorite daily driver. I own more than one of the FA series because they are usually my daily driver. And comes in more than one color variation.
I’m not sure what price range you are getting into but these are safe bet in my book. The first 2 choices are blind buy for sure especially if you can get them at the right price. A few months ago they were almost half of what they’re asking for now.
If you want me to dive into the next price tiers of $200-600 price range let me know or a deep dive into specific models. Going up toward $1000 range you’d probably already need to be neck deep in the hobby. I can tell you that both Fx15 and FA19 are just superb.
As I mentioned, I’m not in the hobby in search of a perfect sound but to find new ways of listening to my favorite songs.
I have the FD5, FD7, FD 15 ,
FH5, FH5s, FH7, FH7s, FH 9, FH15, FH19 coming soon
FA7, FA7s, FA9, FA19
FX15
Headphones, well that’s another can of worms.
Wow, thanks for the long list, Al!!
That should keep me busy exploring for a while.
Seems though that you have them all and you like them all
Any duds you know of to avoid??
The one product from Fiio I don’t like is the UTWS wireless series. They are Bluetooth units for IEMs I have quite a few, but it seems if you don’t use them regularly you can have some connection issues. They are great little units but don’t fit my style of use.
I love their mechanical keyboard with built in dongle but I couldn’t make the custom key assignment work on my Mac, it work as is, same goes with the little 3 keys unit.
If you are a Mac person, I’d avoid older “updatable” products like older DAP, Digital Audio Player, it’s very sluggish, well most of them are I tried several brand not so good.
The only one I’d recommend is the new JM21, it’s also the cheapest one too, very snappy and quite awesome. I can upload my Apple Music on it.
Then when you get going we can talk about ear tips, they are like bass strings. Different flavor for everyone
Sadly, the YouTube reviews are not very good for the most part. Most reviewers has their talking points and agendas I often made purchases because of some bad reviews because I know they are full of it. I’m thinking about creating my own review.
