here in chicago, a lot of local legends have gone lately. word just came out that John Kezdy, singer for the effigies, was hit by a car on his bicycle today and died. one of the first hardcore bands that put chicago on the map, the effigies established the chicago hardcore sound that later bands like naked raygun borrowed (and freely admitted it). if you ever hear the sing songy/soccer chant-y ohh ohh ohhhh ohh’s that makes you want to shout along in chicago hardcore (and to some degree other chicago bands like the smashing pumpkins) that’s the effigies (who, in turn, stole a lot of their sound from their hero’s - britain’s legendary The Ruts). no link to post because this still hasn’t hit the news yet (edited, see below), but all my friends are reporting it on FB. John quit the effigies for a long time to concentrate on his career as a lawyer, becoming an attorney general. he later restarted the band on a part time basis and released a new album a few years ago. really sux today.

Holy shit. RIP dude. Rough couple years, just read he was shot in the Highland Park thing last year too, just to be killed by a delivery truck full of commercialism this year (which would have been spot on for Effigies tunes in '81 or so.)

and his younger brother Pierre who played bass in naked raygun and pegboy died I think two years ago now. just terrible.

I saw them just on Easter Friday this year and the guy had so much energy, was a great bass player and showman. Also, they had a song where he was headbanging this mask with pyro coming out of the pony tail - hilarious!

Rest in peace, you cool bass player! :hugs:

And now Jimmy Buffet has passed at age 76.
Now there’s a man who lived life to the fullest. IMHO
RIP Jimmy.

Jimmy Buffett is a rough one for me. More than any other, his music has been a big part of my life. Discovering his songs changed me to a much more positive outlook on life than the direction I was heading during school. “The Wino and I Know” was the first song I ever learned in guitar.

My wife and I’s first date was at Margaritaville, Las Vegas. I proposed to her live on Radio Margaritaville broadcast to the world from Margaritaville, Orlando. Our honeymoon was in Key West.

There isn’t a part of my life that Jimmy hasn’t played a major part in.

This evening, had some margaritas and a few tears in his honor.

Utterly sucks. I’ve got a college friend on the same path, it’s ugly for everyone. I am in the anger phase.
