I quickly realized that. Also, combining them seems exciting, like a Freeze drone + octave + distortion. (and I say all this with less than 3 weeks experience, lol)

Oh yes @Sue, the pedal rabbit hole is a problem at times.

And I thought I had problems @John_E :joy:

Oh, yeah, it is bad.
You know it is when you have 3 compressors, and pedals overflowing from this set up, which is not properly hooked up at the moment.

Plus I have this.

And if you don’t know @Sue, These are a great place to start. There are many real pedals that are cloned in here, plus you can create your own pedal chains, and experiment and see what you like before you go and get the actual pedals.
Plus
it doubles as an Excellent practice amp, with headphones and an Aux IN, so you can watch your B2B lessons, thru it, on your headphones, and hear your bass and the lessons.
It has a tuner and backing drum tracks, and cost just over $100 for this model, and about $90 for the one without the expression pedal.
There are a few great threads in the forum about these and the pros and maybe a con or two.
But, yeah, these are great to start, and handy to have for many reasons, like headphones, travel, even for jam sessions and live gigs if you prefer, depending on the show.

Holy crap :slightly_smiling_face:
I hope you have at least one assistant to help you out stomping on these.

You know you have a pedal GAS problem when the cost of your pedals is more than the cost of your Bass.

For any beginners seeing this just be aware that initially you DO NOT need any pedals initially, outside of possibly a tuner, and I recommend putting them on the back burner until you have a little experience.

You would be amazed at what you can accomplish by learning to use the controls available on the Bass and amp by themselves.
Initially you need to concentrate on learning to play the Bass first and then worry about pedals.
I feel that pedals for beginners cuts too deeply into their practice time.

Hello and welcome @luke.e

Correct, MANY very famous bassists use nothing.
I am looking to do some very odd things, with bass and sax (board is for both).
It is basically another hobby on top of bass and sax.
I do not recommend this as a normal thing, haha, I don’t like to be normal.

First ‘pedal’ cover coming very soon…

I made this statement because I have seen too many beginners get frustrated and quit because they spent so much money and time on pedals before they learned to play and a lot of people think they need pedals to be able to play properly.

As the old saying goes, a baby needs to learn to crawl before you can stand up and walk and then be able to run.

Welcome aboard @Sue & @kylejscott @pete_b @xalpha @Brian.RichardS !

@John_E , @T_dub guys your pedal boards are Wow! And totally valid point @Celticstar - being able to dabble with effects later down the road is one of the things that inspire me to keep practicing day in day out xD /offtopic

I agree wholeheartedly. Most bassists (very good ones) I’ve seen don’t use any pedals, or at most maybe a couple.
I must confess, I went down the pedal rabbit hole for awhile and built up a fairly substantial pedalboard. Now, I have come full circle and am selling off the pedals and the board, and am back to just using a couple of the effects in the Zoom Bn3. It WAS fun (and expensive) spending time in that rabbit hole, but I’m glad to be back to just concentrating on perfecting my bass playing.

I’ve been playing bass for years now, but my technique has always been poor and I haven’t been giving it the attention it deserves.
I stumbled on Josh’s “learn the money notes” video and FINALLY I found a bass video that actually slowed down and explained things as he was doing it!
I watched a couple more videos, and I’m loving the teaching style and attitude so I pulled the trigger to finally become the badass bass player I’ve always wanted to be!
