Thanks all for the warm welcome. I can see I’m among a very friendly bunch.
Welcome @TimStannard @bylrphil @sandryto00

Thank you!
Hello! I hope this is the right place for this. I have been struggling to pick up bass for the last 6 months or so. I had been using free online resources and not getting very far. Hoping bassbuzz is a good fit.
I am not a natural musician and the last instrument I played was the tuba in high school marching band. However, I have always loved the low end and I want to pick up this instrument. I just need structure and theory passed in bite size chunks.
I have a few questions for community:
-
I only have 1-2 hours a week to practice. Will the slow and steady plan work for me?
-
I can only practice in the evenings when my kids are sleeping. I use a vox amplug 2 bass and headphones. What is the best way to listen and watch the practice videos with this setup?
-
I am left handed and have a left handed bass. What do I need to do to adjust the practice videos for left handed play?
-
What software or extra gear do I need to practice effectively? Are the practice videos on demand and can be played back with a simple video player on a laptop or iPad?
Thank you!
Hi Rckwzrd. Welcome
-
The average lesson last 20 - 30 mins and is made up of an intro - lesson - and then a slow, med, & fast practice session. They are straight forward and easy to learn from.
-
No idea. I have headphones that connect one side to my pc and the other to my amp so I get both feeds at the same time.
-
Nothing. I’m a lefty also and it’s easy follow along with . When he says left hand, it means your right, and vice versa.
-
Not sure if you can download them. I just press play and the video plays right on the b2b website. Very straight forward framework. Nothing fancy required.
Good luck and enjoy.
welcome!
- yes - but i would suggest short daily practice vs doing 2 hours all at once.
- not sure on this but someone else will have a good answer
- i think nothing really - strings are the same, frets are the same, notes are the same. really just a matter of swapping “right” and “left” in your head — but then again @JoshFossgreen frequently refers to the hands as the ‘plucking’ and ‘fretting’ and not just left and right.
- laptop, ipad, etc work great and can be played directly off the website.
id say you should definitely get a tuner, either a clip on or a pedal (i like pedal better). i have the KLIQ tinytune: Amazon.com). note you will also need to buy a 9v power supply.
would also absolutely get a strap. i have this one from Levy’s: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000XPRNSO?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details
this is an incredible community so do not hesitate to ask questions.

Glad you are here @Rckwzrd you are definitely in the right place now.
Make sure you practice a little each day. If you only have 1-2 hours a week, hopefully you can spread that out in 20 min chunks Vs all at once, you won’t do well without lots of repetition. I’d also consider what your goals are. If a lesson is 15-20 min, your going to want to practice those lessons a bit before moving on in some cases.
A tuner and a strap are the only must haves, along with a proper setup if not already done.
You can play the videos over and over and over.
Happy learning!
Welcome @Rckwzrd !
Welcome aboard @Rckwzrd ,
The course is structured to suit your own pace, and as mentioned you can go over each lesson as many times as you like.
One thing to keep in mind is it is addictive, once you start you can’t stop😎 it’s that much fun.
Cheers Brian
Welcome @Rckwzrd
Welcome @Rckwzrd
@Rckwzrd Welcome to the BassBuzz forum!
The AmPlug has an AUX in. If you run an AUX cable from whatever you’re using to watch the videos (PC, tablet, etc.) to the AmPlug, you will be able to hear both the video and your bass playing.
If you have concerns about doing the lessons with you time constraints, Josh does offer a money back guarantee.
Welcome Vickie @vickiemaris
Welcome @Rckwzrd
Welcome @Rckwzrd, enjoy the lessons and the forum!
B2B works with any practice schedule.
Welcome @TimStannard. I’m pretty new here in the course & also a guitar (& accordion) player but have been asked to learn bass by a friend so that I can be a backup. Have fun!
Welcome to the dark side @TimStannard @vickiemaris and @Rckwzrd
@Rckwzrd I’m in the same boat as you…limited time has kept me from practicing as much as I’d like. Just stick with it and do what you can.
All, thank you for the welcome and info!
@mgoldst @John_E: I can scrape about 2 hours of 20-30 minute sessions over a week for practice. This should work for the needed repetition. Sounds like I should expect to do 1-2 modules a week with practice.
@Vince: thanks, the simpler the set up the better for the lessons.
@eric.kiser: I see the aux jack! Will tinker with this set up.
Hi Everyone. I started out as a drummer in grade school, but lost interest in Middle School for various reasons.
A couple years ago I decided to try guitar. My son had taught himself when he was a teenager, so I thought maybe it was something we could do together. I learned a lot, but not really how to play guitar. I let it sit for a while then decided maybe get back to percussion related, so I borrowed a bass guitar from a friend and started these lessons.
I am really enjoying the bass and look forward to cranking through all these lessons. Next stop is to buy my own bass and amp. Need to do some research on both of those…
