Hey all - I’m David from Scotland. I’ve only in the last few days bought a bass guitar (Cort Action PJ Bass Open Pore) after a few weeks of research and debating whether to go ahead with the whole bass thing or not, but I decided to do it!
I’m 25 and played guitar a lot in my teenage years (including many years of lessons), however as my music tastes changed and I went to university I found myself playing less and less.
That being said, I’ve always been creating music using GarageBand etc. and I realised that my favourite part of the process is creating the bass track, and it tends to be what I try and tune into when I listen to music. This is sort of why I’ve gravitated to the bass guitar, as I wanted to use my existing skills but to try something new.
I’m hoping to keep this up as I’ve got history of going all in on something for a few weeks and then ditching it when it becomes to hard or I struggle to find time to fit it into my life My goal is to be able to play along to my favourite pop and country songs and eventually improvise whilst playing as well.
Welcome.
Ever heard of Whitley Bay? That was my birthplace.
You are going to love it here.
Hopefully you have signed up for the Beginner To Badass course.
There is no risk
You will be playing along within the first few lessons.
I was in the same boat as you just under a year ago. Played Rhythm and Lead guitar since the early 1970s.
Having a guitar background you should not have any problems as long as you practice.
The learning curve for Bass is not that steep and nothing like learning guitar.
Welcome aboard, stay in touch with the forum, and enjoy the journey
Very nice of you. Still trying to get around the site. To subscibe is more expensive that i tought but i’ll do it anyways. I’m sure that Josh is a really good teacher.
@Celticstar - I’ve heard of Whitley Bay but never been! Anywhere on the coast appeals to me since I grew up pretty much landlocked I’ve signed up for the Beginner to Badass course and I’m looking forward to working through it. As you say it’s all about practice practice practice, and I just need to ensure I make time for it!
Hello, I’m Jeanette, a 64 year old budding bassist. I was born a visual artist, draw and paint. I just started designing and creating jewelry too. So why the bass? I developed an interest when I was a young teenager, liked the sound. But, back then, the bass wasn’t considered a “girl” instrument. So I ended up playing flute in the school band. Just for a year, it didn’t interest me like my visual art. The years passed, life happened, and not only did my art suffer, with adult responsibilities, the bass never happened. My Spouse of 30+ years is a drummer, and I’d mentioned to him my interest in the bass during that time. Well, a couple weeks ago he said to me, “If I thought you could really play…” I was off! Didn’t even let him finish, lol, I was online to our fave music store, picking out my gear! It may have been on that site where I saw Bassbuzz, and Josh. Not sure. Anyway, 4 days later my gear arrived! Fender Squier P Bass, Fender Rumble 25 amp bundle (came with a tuner, picks and my sales engineer threw in the strap I picked) Oh that pos strap! It was a lock on, and I found out I needed Some special buttons to put on the bass’s buttons. Cause the (badword badword badword) thing kept falling off! It caused me to not want to practice, so I got a new one, a Fender grey camo one with leather ends. It stays on. And it matches Gil better. Gil is my bass’ name, it means “Bright Promise”. As far as this online class goes, I love it, not very far into it, I was “stalking” Josh on the free vids, was playing along, and liked it, so I jumped in and bought the course. I’m not sure if this was the place to post this, (I’m too right brained, lol) but here it is anyway! Happy Slappin!
I was told the same thing when I wanted to start playing at the age of 11. And that was only 20 years ago (I’m 30+)… The classical guitar was considered “appropriate” instrument for the girl
