Hello. I played bass for a few months in college (about 40 years ago). I’ve played guitar and mandolin for the last 40 years. Three weeks ago I was ask to play bass for a group I belong to that keeps “losing” bass players. The worship group I play for does about 7 standard songs and 5 new songs every week, so I’ve jumped into the deep end of the pool.
I’m having fun and have been lurking for a few weeks… I figure it’s time to come out and say “What up?”

Glad you are here @andeescallion
Read your profile - nice to see another neighbor (I’m in Westchester, but used to live in Newtown/Oxford).
BTW - if an instructor tells you an instrument is boring - its time to find a new instructor!

Greetings from Texas! I picked up the bass for the first time (at age 61, getting close to retirement) just after New Year’s at the encouragement of my youngest son who plays multiple instruments, including bass, and has a little home studio in Colorado. Part 1 of the journey was doing some checking around during Christmas break to try to figure out what would be my first bass. On my short list was the Yamaha BB234. I stopped by a music store half a mile from my house to stumble upon one (natural) in stock. Thumbs up. Following son’s advice, I added an Acoustic B50C amp, stand, strap, etc. While still trying figure out what course would be fun and keep my interest level high, I began with some of the free stuff at StudyBass each day which was quite helpful with fundamentals.
I ended up going with B2B a bit less than three weeks ago. I wanted a course that would be fun and make me consistently look forward to picking up the bass every day, warming up and hitting the next lesson. B2B has proven to be a solid choice and Josh is an engaging instructor. Sometimes I feel like I’m moving ahead too quickly since I’m already on Module 6, Lesson 3 and it hasn’t even been a month yet. I’ll admit that, after muddling through Billy Jean at slow (argh!), I decided to move on and come back to it later. I guess that spending 7 years playing trombone as a kid and then later being a youth group chord strummer for a couple years in college might have helped a bit understanding music, but most of that had been long-forgotten and the bass is completely new to me.
Goals – 1) Have fun with this, 2) Maybe jam a bit with other musicians and not be embarrassed, 3) Eventually get to where I can fill in for the bassist on our worship team the times he’s out of pocket.
Favorite bassist – Mariusz Duda with Riverside (perhaps the best band you’ve never heard of – from Warsaw, Poland). Looks like I’ll finally get to see them live in Dallas this coming April.

Good for you, @PinkFloyd . . . and welcome aboard . . .

We’re glad to have you with us and hope you find the course enjoyable! Be aware though, that everyone progresses through different parts of it at different speeds. Some will go very quickly and some others will not. Everyone struggles with Billie Jean, though {lol}

Cheers
Joe
