So, I’m Jim, 63, and I’ve just signed up for the course. Although I have a very special instructor at the moment, I was very impressed with the 100% of the proceed for the course going to musicians currently out of work due to the current situation.

I’ve been involved in music one way or the other all my life since my family put on 45’s and watched me dance to them when I was 2. Mostly vocal performance (Barbershop Harmony), I’ve also dabbled in 6 string acoustic guitar (strumming chords from a Mel Bay book), some piano, drums, mandolin, and… well BASS!

Bought the Ibanez Jump Start kit (GSR109 in Black) and stuck it in a corner until a few weeks ago.

I live in Southern California - the greater Palm Springs area - and I’m looking forward to learning more about that bass!

Jim

Welcome, @JPHaggerty - isn’t it kinda late in Palm Springs right now??

I used to get a chance to come to PS in January for many years in connection with a conference - usually stayed in the Wyndham . Always enjoyed the crisp desert air, the margaritas and the chance for a round of golf in what was the middle of winter for us

Actually, it’s very early – in the morning! I’ve been up all night working with this course and getting some sourdough mixed and ready for baking later today.
It’s beautiful here this time of year! I’m really enjoying this but need to get SOME sleep. LOL

I’m grateful I’m tech savvy having been a Systems Engineer for over 20 years. Helps to know my way around the keyboard. Comes in handy now that in person meeting is not possible. Skype and Zoom to the rescue!

I’ve enjoyed Josh’s postings on YouTube- making learning fun! My instructor (who also had a tour interrupted) told me to get as much information as I can while adhering to his principles, so it’s a win/win situation!

Hey everyone! I’m Jelte, another drummer who joined the world of bass. After drumming for years I began playing bass ( blame Bootsy Collins and Nathan East ) and I just love it, so time to get serious and get some actual lessons in.

I love music, play drums in 2 bands, 1 cover and 1 where we write our own stuff. I like almost every style, but mainly focus on Fusion, Jazz and Funk.

Exited to be here.

Welcome! As you’re working on bass, I’d love to hear how you think (if at all) the vocal harmony work informs or helps the bass work?
I have theories here, but I’d love to hear from you about it!

I do. For so many funky, funky things. Welcome!

Mark, your not old. You started at 60 and I at 68 a few months ago. Just turned 69 about 2 weeks ago. You can do it and Josh can help. Welcome!

Hi Andy!

After this lockdown is over, where do you plan on practicing your skills?

I’ve been singing Baritone in barbershop harmony since I was 17 and a senior in high school. I tried to sing melody once but it was way too boring and I lapsed back into the harmony part. Baritone is all about filling in the cracks to complete a chord. Bass is all about providing the foundation.
So, I’m going from the cracks to the foundation. It’s all good!
