I hope you don’t get discouraged by Josh telling you to use the pinky, because he does that a lot. I wish you good luck, a lot of fun and I really respect that you are trying to learn bass again despite your restriction.
I hope that you find another 3 fingered bass player for technique exchange and so on.
Welcome at @DannyS. Good luck switching to Lefty. @JoshFossgreen has said he is left handed, even tho he plays righty, and I have heard other players on YouTube make that same claim, so it is well within your reach. Good luck.
Welcome to the forum @Kopusetic, nice find on the Rumble 40 for $60!
Welcome @tijsdekort! Yeah, bass amps and shared walls don’t get along well.
Welcome @Mark_UK! Hope you enjoy your very very red bass. And a headphone amp is a great place to start, even when you have a nice amp they’re good to have around for portability and neighbor/family/spouse friendliness.
Welcome David @dmp, glad you’re enjoying the course!
Welcome @DannyS! Like @juli0r said, I’ll encourage you to use your pinky a lot in the course, but just ignore me! You’ll be able to play everything with three fingers, just might take a little extra determination at times. Adjust as needed, I trust your expertise on your hand!
I’ve had comments from a few other students with previous injuries, surgeries, etc., but not sure about full amputations. You’ve still got more fingers than Django Reinhardt ended up with though!
Hi, yesterday was my birthday, and I received a bass. I’ve always liked the guitarist and the bass player, so receiving a bass was like a dream come true. I have to admit, I’m a little nervous about reading in bass clef since I’ve been reading in treble for so long, but I’m hopeful towards it all working out in the end.
Just remember that Every Good Boy Deserves Favour now becomes Great Big Dragons Fly Around, and FACE becomes All Cows Eat Grass, and you should be fine in no time.
LOL, I’ve never heard the mnemonics that way. For me, the treble clef has always been: Every Good Boy Does Fine, and for the Bass clef: Good Boys Do Fine Always. I guess whatever works.
@JoshFossgreen teaches mnemonics for the strings as “Eat And Drink Grapes”, which works, but I first learned it as Every Adult Dog Growls. Again, whatever works for you.
“Every Good Boy Deserves Favour” is a Moody Blues album.
Variations include “Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge”, and one or two others that I’m not going to repeat here with ladies present.
Welcome @Gray06!
Although Josh encourages you to read sheet music and after the first few modules you get the sheet music and tabs as playalong - as you will hear josh saying a few times reading sheet music is not a requirement for this course so no need to be nervous about that. The course is really made so even people without any musical experience can get through it.
Hello, I’m a high school librarian in Maine. I took up guitar at age 57, and then recently branched out into bass. Classic R&B is my favorite genre, but I like lots of different kinds of music. I play a short-scale Hofner, (not the violin shape but the other one), black with white pick guard. I’m still trying to figure out what all the knobs and buttons do, and my 30 wt Hartke controls remain firmly set at 12 o’clock, but I know I will figure it out eventually.
After watching Josh’s free videos, I was able to jam with a couple of friends, playing 12 bar blues. I liked Josh’s teaching approach so much, I decided to go for the B2B course - I’m half-way through and loving it. By the time it’s safe to meet again to jam, I hope to be badass, as promised!
