Welcome @Frank_Beard from another old school one!
Welcome, @Frank_Beard. If your favorite band is the Beatles, then it’s obvious Paul McCartney should be on your personal Mt. Rushmore. He is a bass pioneer and his bass lines help define the Beatles sound.
Thanks for all the welcoming replies, it is appreciated to gain a sense of how much activity happens here. There are other hobby/ support type forums (not of the bass or music ilk) of which I consider joining but they are virtual ghost towns. I am gauging the activity here by being the ultimate noob. After taking time to gain as much as I can I will decide whether on not to get the B2B. I am pacing myself if you will and getting used to forum structure and format.
I am listening to “All Things Must Pass” today in its entirety. The chance is not oft to enjoy it fully, but I have about 10" of snow outside with expectations of doubling that before night’s end… very par for conditions living at almost 11,300 feet! Am not going to go out and plow until a few more hours pass.
Winters up here are a good time to take up a hobby and bass has always been a small dream… I 'aint getting any younger- 'git er done! I need this feather in my cap of becoming more polymathic.
Welcome @Frank_Beard !
If anyone is actually interested in learning bass, B2B is a no-brainer. ![]()
Hello world!
I’m Bill and I’ve had a bass for about 3 weeks. I’ve been kicking around learning another instrument that’s fun to just rock around on with people for a while and never quite landed on anything. I got to some punk rock and metal shows this fall with a couple of bassists with great stage presence and remembered how much fun live music is and now I have a bass.
I played piano in middle school and violin in middle and high school so there’s a decent amount of dusting off things I haven’t thought about in a few years going on as I work my way through Josh’s course.

Hey all,
Tim here…
Just joined the forum and researching new ways to learn how to play the bass. This course seems to be the preferred one out there for beginners.
I started to play (or at least attempted to) a year ago. I went through the Fender Play courses and while I did pick up a few things I felt the course was somewhat lacking is real substance. Anyway, still struggling to get hands to work together, play with accuracy and general tempo. I do have to mention that I am doing this “later in life”… I started at 63 years of age so perhaps I don’t have the dexterity I once had. I did play brass instruments in high school so do have some music in my past. Can read treble clef music but not bass clef, so I’m using tabs only. I have learned to play a few “easier” songs over the past year… I can muddle through a couple of Green Day tunes, a few slower Beatles track… however speed and accuracy is my biggest problem.
I guess my real question is… is this the course for me? Any feedback, suggestions is very much appreciated!
Cheers, Tim
Great to have you here @tim1960
The answer is YES! This is the course for you.
You will have the single most solid foundation you can find. And the forum here is filled with beginners who took the course and can help with any and all questions.
RE your hands doing what you want - this takes time, but also it takes lessons that build the skills.
You will not spend money on anything better than the course (including gear) on your bass journey.

Welcome!
If you’re familiar with treble clef you only have to transpose by two notes so the G becomes a B etc.
