Hello!
Just joined a few days back and have been navigating around. I began my musical journey self taught Piano, drums, acoustic guitar. Never claimed to be good at any of them, just noodled around. If I had to pick an instrument that I was known for it would be the drums (hand drums).
My Daughter plays bass in a band, and we were over to her place one night for dinner. Afterwards, we were just sitting around the living room noodling with the various musical instruments, when she handed me her bass and said “here, try this”. I’d never picked one up before but was like “well the strings are tuned like a guitar so let’s see” I spent the rest of the evening noodling around with it.
I’ve since gone and bought a Gretsch G2220 short scale as a regular size bass feels very weird to me. I will be signing up for the course as I don’t want to learn bad habits like I most likely have with the other instruments I’ve messed around with.
From what I’ve seen so far on YT and here, the community seems friendly and helpful. I am glad to be a part of it.
Welcome @Oakenstone
Have fun!

Welcome along @Oakenstone !
Welcome @Oakenstone !
Welcome @Oakenstone! Enjoy the G2220. I like mine so much I bought a second.
Since my son was born I’ve purchased around 7 or 8 ps5/switch games… only being able to open 2 and played 1… the perks of having a toddler…
At least he enjoys music, other way the bass journey would be interrupted…
Sorry for bad english
Welcome!
Hi! I’m less than a week into playing bass, but I’m not new to music. I tried getting into guitar years ago and couldn’t really get into it. It wasn’t that it felt too hard or anything. It was more that it didn’t mesh with me for whatever reason. Later I found drums. I’ve been drumming for years now and it’s a ton of fun. But I still have a guitar in my closet and realized that, well, I REALLY like listening to bass, far more than guitar. So I bought myself a bass and here I am. I’m enjoying it quite a lot so far. I suspect bass is where I belonged all along when I had dreams of playing guitar back in the day, but I just didn’t know it yet. Wrong stringed instrument!
I’m not dropping drums though. They’re awesome. Guess I’m just going to become a drummist. A basser. That rhythm section person. Whatever. Looking forward to seeing how things go in the future!
Welcome @shadowcat
Have fun!
Figured I would introduce myself here ( I am commenting like crazy in the Beginner to Badass course… )
My name is John and I am from Alberta, Canada.
I was in a road band back in the 90’s and was a hardcore gearhead… had the rackmount tuners, All the effects … Fender 2x15 cab… LOL but honestly… wasn’t a great bass player (looking back)
After 20 years away from music, a neighbor was having a jam night at his place… I kinda wandered over to see what the noise was about… and ended up jamming with them for 4 hrs! LOL…
Soon after, I ended up getting a Jackson Spectra J2SP bass from our local music shop (see image )
I have seen Josh’s vids on YouTube and the lessons on the site… and compared with other lesson providers, I knew Josh was going to be the right fit… his humor and honesty… and chill nature is what makes for a great teacher.
I am about 6 modules into the course now… and REALLY enjoying it… It’s helping me to correct bad habits I picked up, when I taught myself to play.
Also the Theory is explained in an EASY to understand way.
Anywho… I’ve rambled on WAY too long…
Looking forward to having a LOT of fun here
Rock on!!
Welcome, @shadowcat. Glad you’re here. Enjoy!

Thanks @MikeC !
I am really impressed with the B2B course, and how helpful the community is here
So far it’s been super fun!
Welcome @shadowcat , be the rhythm section…it’s cool
Hi , welcome @john.w.robicheau , have fun with the course, stay away from the GAS section on this forum, if you were a gearhead it’s the most dangerous place to be , it almost makes having GAS acceptable
