Hi folks. I took a couple bass lessons about 15 years ago but didn’t have the time to keep it up. My husband is a guitar player and now that our kids are older I have time to learn to jam with him. I have a Fernandes Tremor we bought together those 15 years ago and picked up a Kala solid body UBass for practicing on the couch. I bought the course and am excited to be here and learn a new skill!
Welcome to the Foums @toadsongs ! You are going to have a BLAST with the course… and will be jammin with the hubby in no time!
Glad to have you here!
Welcome @toadsongs
Have fun!

Welcome @toadsongs !
Nothing like showing up fashionably late (almost post 2500).
I started my music adventure on piano when I was 8. From 10-12, I studied with the soloist for the St. Louis Philharmonic. Two hours every Saturday morning, the first hour doing theory on paper at her kitchen table, the second hour at the keyboard of her Steinway concert grand. At 14, I learned the bass clarinet. At 16, I joined a band playing bass and keys on a Farfisa Mini. For a song to get on our setlist, girls had to dance to it. If they didn’t, bye bye! Then came the Army, university and a career that involved stupid amounts of international travel. I was “retired” by Motorola at 53. I think I was the first exec offered a package when the original Moto dissolved into pieces in 2004. I never went back to work. I “retired” my wife at 60, and finally had the freedom and money to pick up the bass and keys again. I bought a MIM Fender repro of the '63 Jazz (my first bass, bought used). I then proceeded to fall on ice while walking my dogs and blew out my left shoulder. When it finally healed enough to start playing again, the reach to the first fret was a little uncomfortable, so I bought a 2013 Gibson SG. I now have more than two racks of shorties. Love them! Welcome, @TheMaartian. Glad you’re here. Enjoy!
Welcome @TheMaartian !
Welcome!
Those are some very cool photos, really. You went wild with the short scales
I saw that you live in Arcachon!? Very beautiful region, especially if you drive further south through the pine & cork woods.
I have some great memories of that place…
Welcome @TheMaartian
Have fun!
I love it here. I brought my 3 dogs with me when I moved here 3+ years ago. The drive down to Bayonne and beyond is gorgeous. I spent a lot of time working in Bilbao a couple of decades ago, and I love Arcachon’s proximity to northern Spain and the Pyrénées.
I have lived and worked all over the world. I lived in downtown Chicago for a long time when I worked for the consulting group that was attached to Motorola University, managing the client engagements in Asia and Europe. I spent over 200 nights/year sleeping in hotels and 30+ sleeping on airplanes. I wanted to live in a smaller community with a slower pace of life (like “island time”), but still have access to great amenities. Arcachon fits the bill perfectly. I’m never leaving.
When you end up living in France, you have done everything right! It’s not called “living like a god in France” for nothing!
I spent one year hitchhiking through France when I was young and stupid, and found my place to retire in “Les Cevennes”. It’s wild and remote … just the way I like it.
But I do like the Haute Savoie and the lesser known parts of the Provence too…
France is truly beautiful … and the French are a nice people (I hope you learned French!?)
Arcachon is a great starting point for hiking in the “wild” Pyrenees, and there are some very cool paleolithic sites, as well as traces of the Catharism culture.
And of course, the surf is great!
Welcome @TheMaartian
Welcome along @toadsongs and @TheMaartian !
Hello! My name is Brian Nefferdorf. I’ve been a guitarist for about 33 years but my goal this year is to learn the proper way to play bass. I’m tired of sounding like a guitar player playing bass (which is what I am). Although I watched several of your YouTube videos and gained a better understanding of proper technique, I need an honest regime to motivate and keep me on track. I look forward to the next couple of months!
Welcome, @neffonguitar. Glad you’re here. Josh’s videos on YouTube are great, but his Beginner to Badass course is golden. Enjoy!
