46 year old, started playing about 1.5 months ago also. My youngest is 20, unfortunately not into music. In my case, now that the kids are grown I’ve got time to work on that rock star thing again.

Welcome, you will enjoy Josh.
Hi all, I’m Craig, from Des Moines, Iowa. I’ve been listening to primarily rock and metal most of my life. I’ve been learning guitar for around a year (I got through barre chords!), but I didn’t feel like I was making progress, and just wasn’t enjoying it enough, so I needed a “break.”
I’m inspired by my youngest daughter, who plays clarinet and sax and has now started playing piano. She’s my new concert partner (Rob Zombie and now Disturbed are coming up soon).
I can’t yet read music and have always felt “rhythmically challenged,” so I felt the bass was perfect. I’m taking it a little more seriously than I did with guitar; I’m hoping bass will also help when I pick up the guitar occasionally.
I mostly enjoy “thrash” or “metal with a groove,” as I think about it. Metallica and Anthrax are high on the list, but rock (TOOL, Green Day, etc.) as well. However, if I had to single out one “bass hero,” that would probably be Les Claypool. I hope to one day be able to pull off a cover of “Tommy the Cat.”
Anyway, that’s enough about me, I suppose. I’ve got some videos to watch.

Welcome , @craig. Glad you’re here. Enjoy!
Hello all.
I started learning to play back in November. I’d been wanting to learn to play guitar for ages, but never had/took the time to learn. A few years ago a hand injury left me with nerve damage in my right hand and it made me realize that wasting time is dumb. If you’ve got something you want to do you’d better get after it.
I decided to get a bass since, in my logic, the strings are further apart and I’m not really able to hold a pick. My Dad had an acoustic bass that he gave me and I was hooked. Surprisingly, I learned that bass is really what I wanted to learn all along, not guitar. The bass line of a song is what I would go around humming all day, so I fell in to the right choice by pure luck!
I’ve since picked up an electric bass, a couple amps and a handful of strings and I’m constantly shocked at how many things can affect your tone. I’ve got much to learn, but I’m really enjoying this and looking forward to learning more. Hopefully y’all can help me unlock the mysteries of ghost notes and muting I’m struggling over here!
See y’all around the forum
