Hey JillyKat here and super new to the bass! I play the Danelectro Red Hot Longhorn with a Rumble 40.

Looking forward to playing lots of great bass lines and eventually with real people in a 70s cover band! My singing voice is really low soo I was attracted to the bass for its luscious low notes.

Are you a måneskin fan? Because they have awesome bass lines and you definitely have the right bass for it.

TL;DR at the bottom… scroll there, if you don’t want to see a wall of text!

Andre, portuguese, 47. Livinig in Ireland.
Wife and kids play Guitar, Piano and Ukelele. Eldest daughter is trying to “steal” my bass :smiley:

Never had music training… have a good sense of rhythm and first time I picked up a bass was at the age of 19… an Upright Bass… as my academic band Bassist wasn’t being able to pick up the tempo on 2 of the songs and I could. So… played it for a year.

Left University and later bought a cheap Bass and started learning… but Internet was different back then… and trying to learn letter notation when we learn notes and not letters was hard. Eventually gave up.

Last year decided to give a try, but wood and electrics on the cheap bass were gone so bought a new one. Sterling StingRay 4… tried learning through the other website… that due to my lack of musical background was impossible. Yousician… occasional lessons and a lot of YT videos, I was going to buy a new bass - 5 string, MS - but broke strumming hand which took me down for nearly 4-5 months. Restarted slowly… managing 10-15 minutes per day on low tempos… so decided to get the 5 String MS… but shop replied with a better opportunity… and ordered an Ibanez BTB806MS… that is currently “lost” in some UPS warehouse.

Signed up for BassBuzz today and so far loving the teaching style and the “lets play… theory later”. Highly motivated… but can’t rush into it, otherwise hand gets swollen. :slight_smile:

My goal with the bass playing is mainly for mental health(several health issues past year) and to share a hobby with my kids, while they still feel like it. Absolutely not aiming for bands or higher flights. :slight_smile:

TL;DR: Hi… happy to be here… joined today! :smiley:

Greetings all, I’m retired with time to play, long mixed history with music, but 20 years later, I am about to finish Joss’ Module 9. It’s so helpful. I am, so far, a bit confused if this is a reply or post and how to navigate in this forum, but happy to be a part of the bass community … again!! :}

Welcome, @JillyKat. Glad you’re here. Love your bass! I played a Danelectro Longhorn in a band years ago. It is a super-sounding bass with its easy to play short scale. Just a great groove monster. Enjoy!

Welcome, @WillyNC. Glad you’re here. You navigated posting an intro post just fine. There are lots of great players here ready to help out, so feel free to ask about anything. Enjoy!

Thanks @MikeC, and how about connecting with local folks or have gatherings occasionally? I would lead one for Charlotte NC … BassBuzz Weekend!!

I want to do some bass circles with some of you guys and gals!! Good times! A bass circle is … a drummer and 6 basses. Pick a key, what’s the vibe. Each takes a piece of what happens, and it all works. Nothing complex. 6 vibes. Then, next player steps in to learn your part, something fairly easy, and then you unplug and plug her in, continue, and so on. Lots of people can work through. You could go to another spot and get back in. Fun!!

Sounds like fun.

I’ve hosted acoustic guitar gatherings in the past. It’s a wonderful way to meet folks. My gatherings were a lot simpler, though, as players just had to ship their guitars to me, no amps, cords, pedals were required. :joy:
