Hi all, I started bass last month, just noodling with some tabs on songs. I realized quickly that watching one video here and there wasn’t enough to actually learn everything I needed to in order to play bass properly, so here I am!
I also didn’t want to develop bad habits early on, and I’m glad I started this course! Plus, Josh is just cool.

How I memorized the strings: Electronic Arts Destroys Games (EADG) lol

Welcome to the forum!

Hahaha! Brilliant!

I use Eddie Ate Dynamite Goodbye.
Got a 6 string last week, eldest was trying new ones to fit for additional B and C.

Bastard Eddie Ate Dynamite Goodbye Crapper.

Who else has mnemonics for the strings?

Welcome along @jefflangford67 !

I would second the earlier recommendation to take a look at Mark Smith’s courses on Talking Bass. I have done a couple and have bought more to be done when I have time. I’m about halfway through B2B.

I’m so glad I’m going through the beginner stuff. Turns out, I wasn’t strumming the right way to get the best sound possible.
Thanks everyone for the welcome!

I also bought wrist compression wraps just for bass playing. Thankfully, I’m learning how to properly hold the bass and I’m limiting how much bass I play. Thanks for the videos

Hi,

I’m Terry, 48, from Surrey, BC. I’ve been playing bass almost a whole week. I recently fell down a guitar and bass sized rabbit hole.

Up until recently, I hadn’t played an instrument in over 30 years. In school, I played both tenor and bass trombone in concert and multiple stage bands.

A few months ago, we went to visit my 67 year old father, who I discovered had been taking guitar lessons for the past year, and recently migrated from electric to acoustic guitar. I thought that was pretty neat and I really admire the passion he has for his new hobby.

So, last month I saw a few guitars up for auction at a local auction house – inspired by my Dad, I bid on one, and won! Fast forward to today, I now own 2 strat guitars and a jazz bass. The bass I’ve had less than a week – and I picked up a Rumble 40 today. The search for a good practice bass led me to BassBuzz.

Poking through the forums over the last week, it seemed people here were pretty chill and generally helpful, which is my style. I’ve since been watching and playing through Josh’s free videos.

While I aspire to play both the bass and the guitar, to some degree, the bass just sounds and feels more natural to me, and Josh’s laid-back teaching style doesn’t hurt either.

'Scuse my ramble. Happy to be here!

Welcome, @StrangeWit. Glad you’re here. Biting off both guitar and bass is a mouthful, but it’s not impossible. That said, I’m a guitar player and I can tell you that bass is much easier to learn. If you haven’t already, consider signing up for the Beginner to Badass course. It is far and away the best course for a beginner to learn to play bass. Enjoy!
