Hi there all, I’m Todd. About to hit 59 here too soon. This is my second go around on the bass, I quit playing about 8 years ago for various reasons. In my previous incarnation I used to say I wasn’t just good, but good enough, lol. Was solely a pic player, and was fairly decent, but felt like I was a (poorly) trained monkey and really didnt know what I was doing, other than an OK ability at learning songs. No improv or jam capabilities whatsover.
So fast forward to now, and I have the bug again (actually it never really went away, was just suppressed) but this time I’m determined to make up for my previous shortcomings. Figerstyle is a big one, plus the learning the hows and whys of what bass playing is really about. a basic understanding of reading music will be a plus.
I’m on lesson 35 now, and all but one ( yeah- THAT one, lol) I’ve been able to hit the fast workouts so I feel pretty hopefull in this adventure.
Thanks for obliging a old “newb” :slightly_smiling_face:

Also: what past me lacked in talent, he made up for in loud…

Welcome, @thetodddammitt. Glad you’re here. Congrats on your course success. I was also a pick bass player who took B2B to learn proper finger plucking technique. It worked beautifully. Enjoy!

Hi all. Scott here. I am a hobby guitarist and just got interested in the bass. I bought the least expensive medium scale (32") Ibanez that my local music store had. It is very light and so far I like it a lot (until the GAS kicks in). This seems like such a great community. I am so glad I found it. I haven’t signed up for the B2B course yet, but I likely will very soon. I’ve learned so much from this forum alone. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

If you can… I really suggest you enroll in B2B, it is really good… I came from SBL and have learned more here… in less time.

If you see gear… or gear related topics… run away… faster than Forest… just run!

Hi welcome @macshark …welcome to-the low end
And beware of the GAS man, unfortunately he got me already, and the GAS section on this forum is not helping

Welcome @macshark !

Was that the Mezzo? I started with an acoustic but my first electric was an Ibanez Mezzo SRMD200D (that’s it in my avatar picture). Really good little bass for the money; light, lovely easy neck for fretting. More recently I picked up an Ibanez EHB1500 which is a full scale headless bass. Love them both!

Welcome @macshark

B2B is excellent, and the forum is an absolutely wonderful family.

The GAS is lethal, and the enablers are many lol, good luck there

Welcome, @macshark. Glad you’re here. If you want to learn bass, run, don’t walk, to sign up for B2B. Forget GAS for now: B2B is the best bass investment you will ever make. Enjoy!
