Introduce Yourself! (2024)

Hi, all.
I’ve been into music forever. I started taking piano when I was in 4th grade, but I hated practicing. So, I quit after 3 years. When I was in highschool I took up the trombone, and it paid my way through school. After graduation, I bought my first bass, a peavy T40 which I still have today in perfect condition primarily because once I got married, I just didn’t have time for it. Now, I’m turning 65, my kids are grown, and in 3 weeks I’m retiring. So, I’ll finally be able to pick my bass up again. I’ll start my path to becoming a badass then. I’m at a good place because any bad habits I had before are long since forgotten. So, I’ll be starting bass from scratch. All except the reading music part. I just need to apply that to the strings on the bass.

I just bought my first bass after playing guitar for about 1.5 years. I started this course last week in July and am really enjoying it! I hope to learn more about playing bass from all of you (and of course Josh)!

I’ll get a pic for you this weekend. It’s got a rosewood neck which isn’t typical of most t40’s. I special ordered it, and it’s been basically stored for over 25 years. So, it looks just like it did when I bought it. I found it interesting that this bass I bought new for $340 in 1980 something is selling for over $1200 in some cases. I did see a few for around $600, but they were well used.

Well, $340 1980 dollars equals $1,200 2024 dollars after inflation. But it’s clearly held its value.
