Welcome along @roniyaniv , @PenelopeJuicebox and @dr-strangelove !
I have a 5 string Glarry J Bass.
I thought don’t invest too much money if you aren’t sure. I wish I had done more research first though. I am not unhappy with it, but I am already realizing I should have gone for a Precision bass.
I also need to install a tapered neck shim to bring the neck angle down. The strings are close to a 1/4” off the frets at the bottom of the neck.
That sounds very familiar. I started back in January with a nice Yamaha P/J because I cheaped out and didn’t get the P bass that I wanted. Having said that, I’ve been averaging a new bass a month since then. I really like them all, and I need to slow down. My wife is starting to get that look when I tell her about the new ones.
Welcome!
I know that lots of folks have moved on to bands and performing on bass after (or during) the B2B course.
There are a few different threads that touch on this, but here’s one lil’ story:
There are some great cameos of forum folks and B2B alumni on the most recent BassBuzz video as well:
It happens!
All the best to you in your bass adventures!
Hey everybody! Matty D here.
I just started the B2BA course after a looooonnnngggg stint of cyber stalking Josh’s videos on YouTube.
I grew up in a musical family. My dad played piano for the church for about 30 yrs and my mom always sang. I feel like music is a language that we always spoke in the home but I never REALLY studied it to be able to be fluent.
I’ve had stints playing the following:
- Drums (and lot s of desk drumming lol)
- Guitar
- Keyboard/piano
- Didgeridoo
- Analog synthesizers
- Harmonica
I’ve messed around on the bass for decades but with this class I’m trying to get serious. I always told folks who asked about my instruments that they are my “emotional support instruments” meaning I have them, I play with them but I don’t actually “play” them.
I took piano lessons for a year a couple of years back and it was nice but my brain didn’t love splitting hands and trying to focus.
Bass and drums have always been such a love of mine. As chief butt movers they really are the soul to the music that I love.
I’m a fan of all music (the most overused phrase ever):
- Grunge rock (90’s-00’s)
- EDM (Trance, dubstep, breakbeats, ambient, D&B)
- Australian rock
- Punk/Emo
- Blues
- 00’s Hiphop
- 80’s
- Classical
Fun fact: I used to play/practice harmonica while driving on a popular PA highway. I had to stop when I found out that I was becoming famous as the “harmonica guy”. Folks were posting to Facebook about it as if I where a sasquatch…
I’d love to connect with folks so feel free to hit me up!
Welcome, @MattyD. Glad you’re here. Sounds like you’ve had a fun, musical upbringing. B2B will channel your love of music so you’ll be able to play what you love. Enjoy the lessons!
Welcome @MattyD
Have fun!
Hey welcome @MattyD , glad to have you here with us! OMG “harmonica guy” is so awesome!
Hi, I’m Andrew in Worcestershire, UK. I first tried to learn bass about 35 years ago and failed dismally. I just had a basic book, no online resources were available and no teachers close. Fast forward to now age 53 and I felt like it was time to try again.
I’ve just bought a Sire Marcus Miller V5 24 fret, an Orange Crush 50 amp and Zoom B1 Four pedal…and signed up for the Beginner to Badass course. With some decent gear and this course I’m more hopeful this time around!
