Hi everyone, suppose it is time I post here. Online I am usually known as Terrorskull, so we’ll start with that. Just got back into playing a few weeks back, now in module 6 of b2b, after I finally picked up a new amp (Rumble 40). I took a few months of lessons over two decades ago after purchasing a bundle with a small amp, that broke when someone borrowed it, and a Squire P-Bass. Moving for school and living in frat kinda shifted my priorities after that… Briefly tried to pick this up again about a decade ago, but sometimes life gets in the way. Right now I am feeling all of the common tropes: too old (44), hands too small, finding the beat impossible, never going to passable let alone good at this, etc.

Outside of learning to play bass, I am a software engineer professionally. When not doing something code related I spend a lot of my time exercising (mostly weight training and cycling these days) and gaming (MMOs, souls-like, etc). I have a small bit of audio knowledge from doing game streaming that will likely not carry over here in anyway beyond knowing what an xlr cable is. Would say my favorites artists are probably Metallica, Alice in Chains, Rammstein, and 3Teeth. I also have (expensive, special needs) cats.

Short term goals are to finish the b2b course, demonstrate some progress to myself, and learn a song or two. If all goes well I will consider some gear upgrades and will likely be seeking advice on a new bass and audio interface for my pc that will be compatible with my existing set up. Before I do that though, I need to prove to myself that I can do this and keep having fun.

I am 46, just started learning bass recently. I recently picked up a Mitchell for learning. I have been slowly practicing for a couple of weeks now.

Welcome to the forum. I’m sorry for going back to an old post. I really think you should delete this. It’s never a good idea to tell a bunch of strangers on the internet where you go to high school. I’m sure everyone here is great people with good intentions, but it’s really just good internet hygiene. My apologies, I know it’s none of my business, but it just brings the dad out in me.

Welcome to the forum, @00Ed @blair @issah.adam.baba @Terrorskull and @jiannichan !

Love the user name, @Terrorskull … Is it from a game? Also, I used to be a SQL engineer. Not quite the same but I feel you on the coding vibe

Thanks! The name isn’t directly from a game, but I did create it for a Shadow Knight character back in the earlier EverQuest days and then kinda kept it after moving to WoW with my rogue.

I feel SQL is definitely in the coding family and has its own complexities, especially when performance is involved. Have had to write a good amount of it over the years as well as do some server management, but there are definitely times I feel I am just scratching the surface on what is there.

Nice!I have a tendency to re-use character names online, so I was just wondering, lol. I haven’t played a lot of WoW, but I did get into LotRO back in the day. Very similar, but with hobbits.

It’s crazy what you can do with it. I always say the world runs on SQL, ju8st no one knows it, lol.

I have heard some good things about it, but never played it myself. Seems like it should be a fun world to run around in. Trying to remember what I heard about it recently. Either Amazon was going to create a new game in that universe or they were going to give the engine a big update or something. Not sure if either happened :man_shrugging:
