Bought a bass to repair on the cheap, decided it was time i actually got serious about learning to play. Owned an Epiphone tbird previously but never stuck, I’m already further than I’ve been previously with my new Jackson x series spectra. looking forward to progressing further!

Hello Rik and welcome!

That’s a nice bass! You will like the BassBuzz course if you decide to get it for your birthday (and congratulations in advance  ). I started to have my mid-life crisis in my last fourty-something last year, and for months I kept watching to bass covers on YouTube, and the bass spoke to me so much. I took a lot of time to decide, and I started this spring, some months before turning 50. I wish I had started sooner! I liked the course a lot, and warmly recommend it.

Have fun! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Ps: I assume in this forum mid-life crises means “I need a bass guitar”. It’s how I see it.

Is anyone keeping count? I have the impression there are many Dutch bassists here, but I don’t know how many. There is even a thread called “ For Dutch only”, which I shamelessly infiltrated, though I’m not Dutch.

Hello @caleb1 and welcome!

I’m glad you got back to playing the bass! I was just yesterday talking to a friend who started learning guitar at the same time I started with the bass, and we are both 50, and we thought it is interesting how so many people at this age decide to start playing an instrument (either for the first time, or coming back to playing after years of a hiatus). I often say there isn’t a right age to start, but for me personally this feels like the right age. Almost like a biological clock says “pick up the bass”.

Playing music is wonderful to keep the brain young, reducing stress, and it is above all so much fun! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

So welcome and have fun!

I started a few weeks ago and forgot to introduce myself. 74 years, so born in 51, you can imagine all the great shows I’ve been to and all the bands I’ve seen. I’ve been in love with this instrument since ‘Fresh Cream’ and getting the first two notes of Spoonful. I’ve owned basses for decades, but only noodling and kinda playing along with records. Finally - I’ve decided to start all over, from the beginning which brings me here. Yay.
