Welcome @loungesurfer47!

California surfing?

I lived on Oahu for 15 years and surfed most every day until we left.

Hey!
My name is Freddie, I got my first bass for Christmas cuz I’ve always wanted to play an instrument and Bass is by far my favourite and I was nervous because I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do it but I’m having a lot of fun and think I’m doing great so far! Huge fan of D.I.Y music and specifically the diy emo scene and genre and starting a band is something I’d love to be able to do one day, this course is definitely gonna help with that!

Hi, I’m Bob. I bought my first bass in 1993 or 1994 when I was in college. I couldn’t really afford lessons, so I just tried to learn in my ow without much luck. Over the years I tried to learn a few more times, but life always seemed to get in the way, I never could force myself to practice consistently.

Last year my attitude changed. When I tried to learn before, I always had the destination in mind, becoming a bassist. Focusing on the end rather than the journey meant that it always felt as if it were taking too long, I couldn’t progress fast enough. I would get frustrated and quit.

One of my high school friends got early onset dementia a couple of years ago. I have heard that learning something difficult (like another language or a musical instrument) later in life may be able to help prevent age-related brain plasticity issues. So I decided it was time to pick up my bass again.

But this time everything was about the journey, the learning process. Because I wasn’t fixated on the end result, I found playing much more fun. I bought a 1-year subscription to Yousician and averaged 1.5 hours/day for 53 weeks before my subscription ended. I figured this course was the next natural step in my journey.

I love my instrument because we share the same philosophy. To me, the bass is a both a servant and a leader in an ensemble. The bassist serves the music and her/his band mates, supporting their extravagances. And the bassist leads by holding the group’s time (along with the drummer, of course). That spirit of servant leadership is the same as I bring to my work and it’s also the same I bring to my family. It is also what I would like to bring to the music I want to make. Now, I just gotta go from beginner to badass…

Hi I’m Lisa from Ayrshire, Scotland. I always wanted to play an instrument and have long since been fond of a good bass line! My daughter plays double bass and piano, and my son, the drums. When growing up, i never had the opportunity apart from at school.
I turned 50 in July and have been thinking more about it. Recently, I thought why not!

I have some friends who play bass who have all been incredibly helpful. I have been given a 3/4 bass on load from a pal (small hands ).
Today, my amp, leads and tuner arrived and I’m ready to start!

Thanks for having me here. Hoping to get to know you all and learn. Cheers, Lisa
