Hello fellow bassbuzzers…
I am 55, and live on the midwest coast of Australia. I bought my first bass (Yamaha TRBX174) 2 weeks ago, yet to get a amp- I am leaning towards the Fender Rumble 40 as per the recommendations here and Bass Buzz yt video.
I play guitar, learn piano and drums, and now adding bass. Need to keep the brain active and learning new things at my age.
Starting this b2ba course today 15 march 2025, following the steady eddie plan, so I should be a badass bass player by mid-September.
I love RHCP and want to play like Flea.
Can’t wait to plug in and get loud.

Hey Josh, I’ve been thinking about learning the bass for a while now and finally decided to pull the trigger. Started the lessons last week, doing 1 or 2 every day. Your teaching style is amazing and I am loving every minute. I’m 71 years old and looking forward to becoming a badass on bass!
Welcome, @northstar53. Glad you’re here. Enjoy the lessons!
Hi Josh. I have been playing for a couple of years and I found it hard to make the transition from the keyboard to the fretboard (dots to patterns). It’s all beginning to make sense now though. I like your style and humour. I have started from the beginning again with you and it’s helping a lot. My goal is to play with a band and , with your help, I will.
Welcome, @david9. Glad you’re here. Your keyboard experience will come in handy on bass. And here’s a forum tip: If you want someone to be notified that you have mentioned his/her name, be sure to type in that person’s username — in this case, @joshfossgreen. That will alert him that someone is “talking” to him. Enjoy the lessons!
Welcome @northstar53 and @david9 and enojy!!!

That’s what I’m here for, breaking bad habits and maintaining motivation! Thanks!
Hi everyone. Just thought I would introduce myself my name is Nik and I am a complete beginner on the bass. I can do the basics like tune, stand up and pluck and even sit down and pluck. I live in the UK (Britain). I also have American citizenship as I lived and worked there for 10 years. I am in a mixed marriage as my wife likes Take That. I can find it in my heart to forgive her. Looking forward to starting the course. I suppose my ambitions are pretty modest really I would just like to get good enough to perform so providing this course continues for 15 years I should get there…
. I wish you all well on your Bass journey to badass or badarse if your British but the American version sounds so much better. I have named , weirdly, my Bass “Dusty Pearl” and my Fender amp is called “Billy Rumble”. Best of luck.
Welcome, @Nik2weeks. Glad you’re here. Enjoy the lessons!
