I just joined this forum being a Sub for a long time!
I’m 24 years old been playing bass I would say since 11th grade, my great-grandpa from Italy was a violinist but music somewhat died out in my family just me being the musician lol. Either way I learnt Upright last summer but funds are low, this is my last semester of college so I cannot wait to join the working world (Shock!) to invest in an Upright or thinking of going with a Barefaced Rig! I currently have a CV Jazz Bass, I sold off my P-bass 60s vibe bass since I just didn’t dig a p-bass (Don’t attack me!!!) and I prefer short scales, I am shorter guy with small fingers! I’m interested in playing Blues, Hill Country mostly, Shoegaze, Indie rock but I love learning it all I want to get better at Jazz and Swing on Bass Guitar!
I use to be active on R/bass but have some opinions and mental health reasons to stay off it… I do use Talkbass but I been growing tired of the mods there and giant bias they show towards favoring users. Anyway I do not want to get into that, I just liked this place better since it seem like a place that we just talk about bass! I do plan to join the Discord.
I have a lot of hobbies but I love fashion a lot, fishing, golfing, subcompact cars, Kendo, so much stuff so if I ever just randomly bring up a hobby you may like, I love to talk!
I don’t wanna take up this space, I type way too much sometimes! Either way I hope to be active the best I can and enjoy this forum! Y’all have an amazing day now!
Welcome @slickshadowrunner. Another GenXer here (51) who signed up after a year of in person lessons, which were about as useful as trying to do all the learning myself.
I’ve learned more from the course and members here in a significantly shorter amount of time. You’re in the right place to reach those lofty goals.
hello everyone!
my name is michael p, i’m a 66 years old beginner, from sudbury, ontario, canada.
yep, another sexagenarian neophyte. they say it’s never too late, right!
i’ve been a music fan my entire life: piano lessons as a child, which i chose to abandon when i was about 13 (an incredibly stupid decision, given that i actually loved playing piano. ah, those teenage years…); the frontman in a post punk band, in my early 30’s; and now a senior citizen (ha!), thinkin’ “never mind shoulda, coulda, woulda. i’m gonna!”
these lessons, and more importantly, our trusty bass teacher, josh fossgreen, are fantastic. i’m into module 4, and although my bass skills at this moment are more sexa than sexy, i’m diggin’ every lesson, and every minute of the way. lookin’ forward to completing this course, then going forward, realising that it’s the journey, and not the destination…
Just got a bass guitar, but have been playing classical and electric for about 5 years. (Alas, just barely an intermediate.) Even after a few lessons, I absolutely love Josh. I’ve already learned quite a bit on those “other guitars” that should transfer to bass, and from my perspective, Josh’s technique instruction is SPOT ON. I was lucky to stumble onto this site from YouTube and am looking forward to a great time. Cheers to all!
