I started on trumpet and played in the high school jazz band! Had a few good solos that year, but still loved the tuba/sousaphone. Looking back, I was nuts for giving it up when I went off to college, but I wanted to “focus on academics” or something (wasn’t a music major).
Welcome @lapsus_linguae !
Hi everyone, I joined here a few years ago and had graduated
Then decided to cut down on screen time and stopped using this forum. I continued playing but had some long breaks due to arm surgery, then relocating for a while with no bass. My Billie Jean is quite rusty… I can tell how much time has passed by Josh’s latest hairstyles when I catch up on YouTube!
I did get disheartened because I could play ‘well’ enough (as a beginner) sitting down but I can’t play standing up. As I still have a dream of playing in a band (51yo now) I really want to tackle it now.
I’m glad to see some of the forum users from a few years ago are still here, though I’m saddened at the passing of Pam, who was very kind and helpful to me (as were many of you).
I hope you are all doing well in your part of the world!

Hi Jerry!
I’m discovering that I can play two notes and have fun - bass face unlocked ![]()
Hello BassBuzz community,
my name is Lothar and I live in Germany. I played the trombone for almost 40 years before I had to give it up for health reasons.
While searching for a new musical home, I was inspired by my ukulele‑playing wife and in December 2024, at the age of 51, I discovered playing bass through a ukulele bass. After a few months, I switched to an Ibanez TMB30‑MGR Talman Short Scale. I started learning bass with the Yousician app, but soon realized that just playing songs wouldn’t really help me improve my skills. Fortunately, I found BassBuzz!
I'm currently in Module 6 and I'm excited to become part of the BassBuzz community.
Welcome Lothar. Have fun here

Hello Everyone! I am here to introduce myself and announce that ~30 minutes ago, I completed the first pass through the B2B Course!
I don’t always do things in order…
I am here:
Looks like there are 4 of us in the RDU, NC area who were willing to stick a pin in the map! ![]()
I am thrilled that I finished this amazing course. It was actually a course-and-a-third because I hit reset after module 5 on my first try through - I was going too fast….another thing I do too much of.
I played bass about 100 years ago when I was 19, then quit cold turkey. I took it back up with retirement looming on the horizon, and I could not be happier with the value I got out of the B2B course.
This is my “PennyJ”, a 2021 Lakland 44-64 Custom PJ!
I like her even more now that I half-way, kinda-sorta know which end is up.
I will now probably take a break from courses for at least a few weeks… practice the 5 things @JoshFossgreen suggested at the end of the course, and learn more songs. I only know about 8 songs “most of the whole way through” ![]()
I will also lurk around here and see what happens.
I’ve started to wear Bass guitarist-indicator t-shirts outside the house…my version of “putting myself out there”. ![]()
Hoping to one day meet some folks near to me in age and musical taste to really start having fun playing music outside of the bedroom!
Cheers!
