Introduce Yourself! (2026)

Hi all… I actually joined back in July of last year but with work, family and practicing (sucking in everything bass that I can lay my hands on). I did not discover the forum in-depth until now. Josh is an awesome teacher and guide and every time I pickup my bass ( a Yamaha TRBX 174EW) i am in seventh heaven. Anyway I’m proud and happy to be a member of this group.

Good Evening All!
I am not my World of Warcraft Character, but that is who my account got it’s namesake from lol.

I picked up guitar in high school over 20 years ago, played for a bit but always found myself to be the least capable with a 6 string. In a friend group that consisted of 5 guitar players, it just seemed natural that one of us would switch to bass. Since I was the one with the least guitar accolades, that became me! So I first played bass at around 16 and played consistently until about 20. No lessons, YouTube and even online Tab wasn’t even remotely close to what it was today, so I learned most of what I knew posted up at Guitar Center with the tab book in front of me playing whatever bass was closest off the wall. Fast forward 20 years of life, marriage, children, jobs, etc… A high school friend of mine is married to a professional guitar tech, so I reached out on a whim last January to have him fix up a guitar I’ve had sitting in my shed in a case for 15+ years. Got it hot-rodded with some EMGs and a really nice setup and I was hooked. I started practicing everything I could over the next few months, got a used tube amp and an interface and was really enjoying my return to guitar. Around June a high school friend who now plays drums, posted he was starting a cover band with another guitar player from school and a really talented singer they knew. All they needed was… a Bass player. (Deja Vu?) So, I sold the guitar and amp on marketplace, bought a bass and a combo amp and learned the 4 songs they wanted me to learn. Now, a year after the bug bit me after a 20 year hiatus, I’ve got two 5 strings, a 6 string guitar and a 7 string guitar, an extension cab for my combo and a helix lt. Oh and the band is still going good! We’ve got about 15 songs down and are about to start looking to book shows!

I got on B2B to take it to the next level and finally learn to properly use all this gear and desire that my impulse control (or lack thereof) has acquired! I’ve gotta say, 20 years of maturity and focus has done wonders for my playing and I’m really excited to get Josh’s program under my belt and keep going!

Hi All,

I am a 60-something recently-retired college prof. I played bass in a bar band back in my wilder days as undergrad. My qualifications and abilities were that I owned a good bass, a good amp and had good sense of rhythm. I couldn’t read music and didn’t really know notes on fretboard. I was visual and our guitar player would show me the patterns and I would memorize. The four of us are all scattered about the U.S. but still remain good friends.

Counter to Josh’s credo on gear, I have accumulated a substantial collection of guitars, basses and amps over the years. And I have decided that now is the time to actually learn music, to put that gear to good use. As the old guy, who used to walk miles uphill both ways to school, I didn’t know I had ADHD until I was in my 40s, which probably helped dampen my interest in learning music as a kid. So, I am really appreciative of all the technology (e.g., YouTube and BassBuzz vids along with apps) that is now available to help me better learn (“see”) the basics of the fretboard and music theory. I have already made great strides in a couple of months.

It is also cool to have online communities like this one (and Talkbass) to help us hold down the low end together.

Hello Bass Buzz community!

I’m a 64-year-old male who was an accomplished trumpet player during the 1970s and 1980s, before choosing to step away from music in order to focus on family responsibilities. Nonetheless, my passion for music has remained undiminished. My favorite genres of modern music are progressive rock, classic rock, jazz, jazz fusion, blues, and rhythm and blues. I also have a strong appreciation for classical and baroque music.

In 2025, my stepson John presented me with an Ibanez GRS200B as a Christmas gift. John is currently pursuing a major in chemical engineering with a minor in music theory. He is a highly skilled guitarist and saxophonist, performing in both jazz and alternative genres. Music has consistently served as a meaningful connection between us, which likely influenced his thoughtful choice of gift.

I am a married father of five and grandfather to one wonderful granddaughter. I’m still working full-time, balancing my career with family and my renewed musical pursuits.

Four weeks ago, I commenced the “Beginner to Badass” course, adhering to the structure of the “Steady Eddie” schedule.

Some of my favorite bassists are: Chris Squire (Yes); Geddy Lee (Rush), Jaco Pastorius; John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin); Jeffrey Hammond (Jethro Tull); Mike Rutherford (Genesis); Joe Macre (Crack the Sky).

Hi,

I’m Scott, I’m in my early 40s and started the Beginner to Badass course a couple of weeks ago. I’m ‘borrowing’ my son’s Ibanez Mikro at the moment, until somebody treats me to a bass of my own

I’m a software developer who lives in North East England, and parent to two children.

I also enjoy bouldering, which with now also learning bass now feels like I want to punish my fingers.

New to the forum- My friend gave me an aria pro II (80?s XRB-2a) for helping him move and I started noodling around.

Recently I have begun to actually practice every day and it’s a good way to unwind learn some riffs and a few songs. (Currently Stone Roses- I wanna be adored)

Today I went and bought a Carvin fretless- I think it’s an lb70 -It’s beautiful and as I used to play violin, I am actually finding the lack of frets quite fun and a bit freeing. Through as it’s day one, I am still hunting about a bit.

in any case, found the forum and excited to keep learning and hopefully do some of the song challenges!
