Is PJ Worth it?

Radius to your liking???

Oh, I’m a massive fan of white neck binding! And block inlays.

I love ‘em on my Mayones, too.

I’ve been playing it and my V8 back to back. The Mayones has a slightly thicker neck profile on it - more of a classic 70s Fender Jazz neck, and a darker tone from its Aguilar ceramic humbuckers. It has been a gas to hear and feel the difference in these two. So similar and yet so distinctly complementary in so many ways.

The V8 has my all-time fave 9.5” radius, just like my Mayones! Woohoo!

Had an inkling it might… since you were raving so much about it :joy:

Guilty as charged.

I know it comes off as new-bass-smitten euphoria, but the feel of this thing is just crazy good, man.

I’ve noticed something since I’ve been playing it back to back with my Jabba Mala: It has made playing tricky lines easier. No joke. After working out a line on the V8 that was previously challenging for me, I switch to the Mayones and it’s a breeze to play. WTF?!

So, yeah. Playability. :star_struck:

Which major credit card agency handles string change day?

So far I have strived to rationalize purchases as “totally different basses!”

Currently I own a Yamaha SBV-800MF. This is a high end signature edition of one of their quirky “flying samurai” bass styles that has a big cult following. I absolutely love these.

For P/J, previously I have owned:

  • a Yamaha BB734A (solid argument as being one of the best instruments you can buy under $1000 - it’s pro level workhorse toured by big name artists)
  • a Warwick Rockbass Streamer LX (not bad for the price!)
  • a Yamaha SBV-550 (same basic bass as my current one, just the normal production model)

I will be buying another Yamaha BB734A soon, or maybe the pro version instead (BBP34). It’s really that good, you just can’t buy a better bass for anywhere near the money. The only reason I sold my first one is I disliked the color. It’s basically MIA Fender quality at half the price.

Sadly, this isn’t even current.
Fretboard oiling is an event in and of itself.

I know it’s bad one good thing I have going for me is the cheap and cheerful strings like Ernie ball and Fender are just awesome. Then there’s a few of my favorite strings and they are not cheap. I love the D’Addario tapewounds they are not cheap, but not as expensive as the TI Jazz and the Optima Gold strings.

On the bright side, the more expensive string like TI Jazz and Optima usually takes months of daily play to break in, with the rotation in my shed it would be about 2025-2027 I’d break in those strings, lol.

Oh my! I absolutely love the color British racing green and the racing stripe on the Guitar is just absolutely awesome, and not to mention my absolute favorite features white binding on the body and neck. Well done! Just love it.

Heaters? no I see 3 at least.

Sorry for the hijack, (we) love to share family photos here…

It’s a nice lead-in to Josh’s GAS video though you should definitely check out even if your on acquisition #1. Check out every other video too

Be sure to share whatever you buy and send us a video of a bass line!

Would you recommend any humidity absorbers to protect instruments, like those bags that sometimes can be found in food containers?

I have a dehumidifier and aircon in my music room - but those are for me, not the instruments
