I am quoting this entire thing for posterity because rather than try and continue to dance around pointing out areas for improvement or things that are blatantly wrong, while being sure to commend for trying to be helpful but slightly missing, I am just going to link back to this post, because Jörg put it very well.
@Whying_Dutchman, also, please learn to read standard notation. If you are going to be generating it and giving it to people, the least you could do is learn to read it yourself to realize why it is generating garbage.
I start to know a little what I am doing, and learning bit by bit here taking the course. Maybe doing the course twice, then look for another course. Inbetween, looking for some songs which make me happy
I think it’s great - what do you think? No really, what do you think about the result?
Is it not great (and yes, I will redo it to make it perfect!).
Can you bring it over your heart to say something positive?
For some reason you rather sh#t on everything I do. Why is that? Now is your opportunity to prove me wrong.
You don’t try to be helpful. At least be honest!
Even in this thread you did not add anything to the solution. Only aggression.
You know very well that I stated:
“Rule #1: “My girlfriend does not want me to get more tools and make everything dirty.””
So, this is one of the constraints. Meaning: no power tool!
My solution was clean, cheap, fast … and with a great result. Also my girlfriend is still my girlfriend, something I very much appreciate.
I don’t see the benefits of 20 years of carpentry, if you cannot improvise. Does it mean that you don’t do a job if you don’t have perfect tools? You just give up?
You’re missing out on a whole world of new experiences.
I got it done with the means I have. Yes, it was trial and error. I failed here and there. And it was a lot of fun!
You would have nothing, given the same circumstances, right?
The whole reason for the existence of the modding thread (except for having fun and show others what to to … and what not to do aka my fails) is: being open to advice.
Some advice is better than others. Take @Al1885 or @howard . I might not always agree, I might fail when ignoring advice. But I always consider it.
Even yours, my friend, if you would finally be serious about it. I am looking forward to it, cause a good carpenter could really help me!
But your “advice” is actually non-advice. I’m sure you can be an even better tradesman, when you learn to appreciate the context of a task and it’s limitations.
Otherwise you are doomed to give up when you are missing hammer and not consider a rock to get a d@mn nail into the wall
I want to do the course again, maybe using either a pick or using my fretless bass.
I have looked for other courses too, even purchased two of TalkingBass. But I am spoiled by B2B. Nothing compares to this course
looking for some songs which make you happy. You know where to find me. Happy to help you here. Send me a private message, so some people here don’t get high blood pressure
I will do that if you install ToneLib Jam and use it for some time. I can even give you some original Rocksmith tabs (possibly even involving Hooky).
Send me a private message!
Even serieus: Als kind had ik een hekel aan klompen. Nu wil ik ze graag dragen, maar ze zijn in Duitsland niet te koop, helaas!
Reading your Dutch text is like reading some very strange kind of poetry
I’m sure that Google translate will crash, if Bassbuzzers want to make sense out of it! It’s like a very eloborated Haiku … without the 5-7-5 restriction.
I have in fact checked out Tonelib Jam before, I do not really have any use for it. I’ve also owned Rocksmith 2014 for years, it’s just not my thing. Thanks anyway though.
Look, learning to read music will be very helpful for you both short and long term. And it’s really not difficult. I really suggets you invest the short amount of time needed.
I do understand it, really! In about 20 years I will either be good enough to not use it to learn … or (very likely) dead!
But I will always keep using it as a didactic tool for newbies!
You are completely right.
But even our beardy guru, master and God uses tabs that are synchronised. It’s one of his sales arguments and at the very core of his method:
LEARN REAL SONGS Our system won’t bore you to death, because you’ll learn loads of real songs with full backing tracks for that “jam-with-the-band” experience. (Don’t worry if you can’t read music or tabs; we’ve got you covered)
Keep on the straight and narrow and avoid developing bad habits with a 100% play-along method.
I’m just saying: for having instant gratification and just play songs without the fuzz of knowing anything or transcribing, this is great!
And this is what the OP wanted , I guess.
So, I 100% agree with you … but NOT in the context of a beginner who just wants to play! Play NOW!
Not about. the tonelib jam Part
and Instead. It’s about
How THE NOTATION. contains information that
makes it easier to read. THAT THE AI generates NONSENSE… Formatting and CONTEXT INFORMATION.
Similar to what I wrote above. You can read it, if you really try. Normally when you write you use punctuation and capital letters and line breaks to convey information in addition to the straight letters of the words. That additional information makes it a lot easier to understand and if you tried to learn to read using my section above you’d think it’s way harder than learning from correctly written material.
I don’t know if this one is generated by AI, honestly!
Some might, others are not. Just like in Songsterr, I guess.
The whole point of the thread is: playing a song. The OP might correct me, but I think this is the gist for it.
Can you play that song, using ToneLib and the Tab where the PDF resulted from? Yes!
So here is where this discussion has fulfilled it’s purpose. That was comment #2.
You are right with everything you say, just like @howard and especially just like @joergkutter, who’s input I always value very highly!
I repeat: YOU ARE ALL RIGHT! (@joergkutter - repetition helps, I get it!)
But the issue was at it’s core not about getting a correct notation, but to get a simple and quick way to play the song.
So, in terms of correct notation, everybody might be right (I can’t judge, as I currently don’t care about the nitty-gritty details of notation).
In terms of playing the song ,it simply works. So, by definition, it cannot be “nonsense”!
I am not going to ask you to install Tonelib jam and download the song here: Dropbox
I have done that so many times now, and even I understand when things are not going to happen
In the end we are having two different discussions here. One is practical: play the song! The other is theoretical: understand what you are doing.
I just wanna play. I have the feeling this is (currently) true for the OP too.
I promise that I will learn notation as soon as I’m done playing just for fun!
EDIT by the way: this is the “AI” that wrote the tabs. I think I will invite him to BassBuzz to join our jolly discussions:
@Wombat-metal, @barney: you have the DP126, right? How do you set up pickup height?
There are two ways to set the pickup height: either with the screws to change height on for the entire pickup or individually per string using the hexagon socket screw.
As the pickups are quite high (especially the J pickup), I was thinking about setting them as low as possible and only adjust the hexagon screws.
The general advice I’d add to that is. For anyone using tools who doesn’t use tools for a living. Think more than one step ahead i.e. if I make a mistake, can I fix / recover from that error. If the answer is a no then be smart about your choices. Practice on a scrap piece before you drill, cut, chisel etc.
I’m done with your needless prima donna behaviour. I’m happy you’ve turned your inexpensive Harley Benton bass into something you like.
@barney - I would never complain about Howard. He follows through … and he knows what he’s doing! Same for Wombat-Metal - who is the modder I want to be…
You left out the not so pleasant parts! I think it’s the right choice for both our peace of minds!
It’s the godd@m truth, really!
I think, reading about what you do gave me the initial ideas to mod, so there’s that!
I very much sympathize with your approach to things…
