My first travel bass was a Kala Journeyman. Sounded like a dwarf double bass - really like the wooden sound. Guess it’s kind of similar with the Hofner “unplugged”?
Its also very light weight which makes it good for quick pick up and play acoustic sessions.
Agree. I bought a Fender Mustang headphone amp that blue tooth’s to my phone. You won’t need an amp for a while and with a headphone amp you’re not disturbing anyone when you practice.
Yeah. They are definitely fine for a start for sure. You can go a while with them until you have a better idea of a more permanent route you want to take. And even then they are still useful after that, just throw them in a gig bag and go if you take the instrument anywhere.
Also useful for trying out instruments in stores.
There are a few disadvantages of the Fender Mustang Micro, compared to the Boss katana Go:
- no display
- no tuner
- audio interface is one way
- sound quality and effects quality is ok, but not as good as the Katana Go
- no specific bass mode
- no app. Being able to configure settings on the app is very comfortable.
The price difference is not huge, so I would advice the Boss Katana, if you are considering something in the price range of the Fender or Boss.
Katana Go has both dedicated guitar mode and bass mode. I love that they have compressor and wah. Later if you want to expand you can just add the FS-1 WL the wireless pedal. It’s not cheap but crazy awesome.
WTF? My only hope: fake news!
I wish, Sweetwater has it as discontinued. Amazon doesn’t seem to have any at all.
I just managed to order one from Guitar Center, it’s been on my wish list for a while but I’d been holding off given the amount of other toys I’ve ordered recently. It did say limited stock and suggested it’s a floor model.
I have just started learning bass, using the B2B course and loving it. I agree with the general comments of buying a known brand. I struck lucky and picked up a used Ibanez TMB 100 Talman bass on Facebook Marketplace for £80. It had only been used twice. It plays well and will suit me for years while I learn the trade. Go for a used Ibanez or Squirer as your first bass.
