just caught this on his insta: he now has a single humbucker/stingray, a jazz, and a new signature short scale P, and all 3 models now also come in black:
I’m jumping on the Dart 3. I have last years model, which is long scale that I no longer play. It’s pretty well built so if that is any predicter, I have no hesitation about the dart 3.
I see they are giving two months to order this time.
Shame on y’all Joe Dart fanboi, “jumping” on it.
That Joe Dart 3 is very cool and it checks all boxes but one for me, I’m hoping for a wider neck but any ways I’m either the 46th or the 47th (When I place the order it was 45 sold) I’m hoping the 47th. That’s a good matching number with JD.
@mgoldst it’s not a fake. They did take my money.
Joe spent pretty much last year touring with the Sterling Joe Dart I. I have the EMBB Joe Dart II and it’s obviously awesome. Them I made myself a Sterling Joe Dart and again it’s obviously awesome. Fast forward a few years later Sterling release one of their own and it’s super awesome as well, albeit a bit heavier than both of mine. It’s well built. I also picked up the limited run 2023 SB14. All are very well built.
I don’t have a U5, I have a D5, a Sterling RaySS4 short scale stingray, and last years Joe Dart.
My Rayss4 Short Scale is a newer model than @MikeC, mine has a roasted maple neck. All of my thoughts are subjective because they are all well built and comparable in quality. A few years ago Sire was cleaning everyone’s clock on quality, but the competitors have really closed the gap with QC.
I prefer the neck on the Rayss4 over the D5. The finish is more satin and I like that and the contours of a stingray neck. And stingray body. The fretboard on the D5 is super glossy and not my thing. So a P with fat poles on stingray body and neck? Sign me up. I can adjust the tone with a preamp. I have one from Sadowsky
That’s me. YMMV. There’s not a right or wrong answer
All I know is that my Sires are excellent. So is my Sterling.
That said, if I were to buy an Indonesian bass right now, it would be a Sire, specifically, an F10.
Personally, I know of no definitive evidence that Sire “competitors have really closed the gap with QC,” particularly at the great price points that Sire offers its instruments, but what do I know? I’m not an industry expert.
I say that because the attention to the fret work on current basses like Squier are better than they were a few years ago, at least for those in the CV series. Cheaper Squiers still have issues. And the last couple Mexican Fenders I have had are perfect, and they were really hit or miss 4-5 years ago, and they roll the edges now.
So I think that is thanks to Sire, to give them props, are really innovative. The only miss I can think of is the Z7 and they’re fixing that.
That Sire F10 is a special beast. It’s obviously an homage aimed at Fodera. And it delivers a ton of value that belies its price. I can only withstand so much temptation, despite an extra string.
