Katana Bass Amp Questions

Yep, the Classic Vibes bass VI. I’ve still got stock strings on mine. They’re a bit thin but those 3 single coils sure do make it sound like a “real” bass. Of the things I could think of to mod it, the pickups would be last on that list. I’d replace the bridge and tailpiece to get rid of the trem altogether. Those strangle switches are making me think that I need to replace my guitar with a jazzmaster someday.

Cool!

I just read all the Thomann reviews. Some are not happy with the build qualiity, almost everybody is complaining about the bridge … but the overwhelming majority loves that quirky hybrid.

I’m not gonna buy it, though I had a short impulse to do so. Possibly cause my gf is not at home and does not have the usual NO!!! expression in her face when she sees Thomann on my screen…

But it’s a fascinating instrument. It’s tuned like a real bass? Could you tune it to BEADGC?

Good feature going from modern to vintage. Very useful when you want to stay in or stand out in the mix.

I wasn’t trying to bag on it, I was just remembering the old days of trying to move an 8x10 Ampeg fridge.

That’s one of the primary reasons I replaced my 120vac Rumble 40 with a 230vac Studio 40.

Thomann has the HB bassguitar, which does the same job as the VI. It’s a bass, the EADG strings are the same octave as a bass. It’s just got the additional B and E strings as well. The biggest issue that I’m having with it is getting used to the string spacing.

That out of the way, it’s really its own instrument. You can’t really play it like you would a regular 4 string bass, finger style is a real PITA. You also can’t play it like a guitar. A lot of chords simply don’t sound good that low. Two and 3 note chords played mostly higher than D tend to sound best.

Taking it down to B is probably doable but you’d need a thicker string and I’d hesitate to put anything thicker than 100 - 105 on there with the spacing being what it is.

I was happy to see that it’s a long scale - so an absolute nono for me!

Anyway, it was a short quirk in my mind, will not happen again

Liar, liar, pants on fire!

Hahaha! Our next vacation might be in “Les Landes” - not far away from you.
Let’s meet up, you’ll get to know my girlfriend (be prepared for lots of red wine!)… and then you’ll know why I am absolutely terrified of her. She might be small, look sweet and talk sophicticated … but she was born and raised in a dictatorship and knows the traits of subtle terror by heart

So … no new basses for me!

That would be great. Let me know when. I lost the ability to metabolize alcohol almost 8 years ago. Just one glass of wine would give me an awful 3-day headache. I recently tried a 0.0 bier. The 1/2% or less of alcohol was still too much, and resulted in a 2.5 day headache. It’s like drinking the Water of Life in Dune. Poison now. But, I can keep up with “l’eau pétillante”!

I never really drank alcohol … for philosophical reasons (a remainder of my straight edge times) … so you are in good company!

But my girlfriend is know to known for drinking even the most hardcore Russian oligarch under the table, while still making eloquent conversation.
I have seen many of my friends loosing the drinking battle to her … and remember them being in a miserable and cross eyed state after … she is Moscow-hardened
I’m sure we’ll find some French to challenge!

And let’s not forget the amazing free acoustic dampening angled floor stand they send with it! :exploding_head:

The only reason I bought mine!

Thx.

Neither did I till I saw an ad for one @ £100. Amazing what you can do with a bread knife and some dbl sided sticky tape.

Katana amp answers -
I used the Katana 110 amp for the entire day…
And holy moly it sounds so good with so much low end that’s rich and full.
I spent only minutes with the settings trying for the most basic amp sounds and I’m super happy with it.
That’s my two bits about it.
I love it so much my positive recommendations are without reserve.
