I love the fact that he’s a bassist, plays in a band and plays to serve the songs…fame and ego put to one side.
Cool bass, but it’s a Fender, so I can’t like it
I also really like Keanu… the fender choice though!
From what I read, Keanu seems to be a really decent guy, and a kind and gentle soul.
This quote has been attributed to him - in any case, I couldn’t agree more:
Now, about that Fender…
Great man!
I known him during John Wick 2 (part of the film was filmed in Rome), and he was always kind, polite, a gentleman.
Now we can add great bass player with great personal bass taste!
We need to make a collection and buy him a proper bass.
He probably can’t afford more than a fender!
Here are at least two of Keanu’s custom basses. The cases behind him in the second pic show he doesn’t need that funky-ass Fender.
The Matrix Bass
The Orange You Glad Neo Plays Bass
I’m not a Fender fan… I don’t dislike them but haven’t found one I like. I might need that Keanu one. Even if I hardly ever touch it. That man is a heckin treasure of a human being.
Yep…
Don’t consider doing anything rash.
Keanu doesn’t need anyone buying that rando Fender on his behalf.
He wouldn’t do that to you.
I enjoyed having him stuck in my head in Cyberpunk 2077.
Not a Fender fan, don’t like their fret boards or inflated prices. If you look at the instrument itself, without attaching any brand name to it, it’s a collection of machine head tuners, a fret board, a body and some electronics. Given so many options out there I can’t believe a person couldn’t find something similar or better for the fell, the sound and the money. I play a $525.00 G&L and it sounds every bit as good as a $2000 bass.
Yeah, this is a common thing. The current top end of the intermediate price range punches really far above its weight for several brands. I think mostly it’s that the Indonesian factories are actually really good. A lot of the stealth superstars have been made in Indonesia over recent years.
Additionally, with the current weak yen, MIJ basses are at about a 50% cut historically, which moves some of the best instruments you can buy anywhere into the $500-1000 price range.
We all enjoyed that!
Who doesn’t love Keanu.
Fellow Canadian too, so I love him even more for that.
I wasn’t going to own a Fender after I’d tried some when I was just looking for my first. I ended up with a $500 Yamaha. The one Josh recommended!
Until I saw a great deal on a 2014 MIM Geddy Lee Jazz. I just had to have it. I still prefer the feel of the Yamaha, but try to play Ged as much as I can.
What caught my attention is the idea of the double stacked pots. Perhaps it has’t been officially integrated by Fender before but I really don’t think it’s something new.
I’ve wanted to mod my Fender PJ Mustang like that. Anyway, I feel a lot of respect for Keanu as a person and actor and specially because he plays bass.
I was used to him from Bill and Ted and then I saw “My Own Private Idaho” and was blown away.
Also, seeing that movie in Portland, at a brepub/theater, in 1991 - highly recommended. The number of Portland references/in-jokes was insane.
It’s really a phenomenal movie I watched many times in the 90s. I have to see it again. I won’t get the Portland references but that’s ok.
No, definitely not. I don’t understand what the deal was with that experienced luthier saying this wiring was a new thing Keanu came up with. Smells like something the marketing department made him add.
Stacked concentric knobs. Brand new for 2024. The usual bleeding edge design you’d expect from Fender @eric.kiser
