Thanks for the updates John @John_E ,
Pam is the most determined person I’ve ever known.
Looking forward to seeing her up and about in her new scarf :grinning::grinning:
Cheers Brian

@PamPurrs not what any of us were hoping for, but we’re lucky to still have you.

Love the scarf idea - go wild! Rival Steven Tyler’s mic stand if you need to!

Pam will be in the ICU a bit longer than expected. At least Saturday, not sure why. Sara is at work and will get an update later today.

You know, given how fast we kick patients out of the hospital in the US, this might not be a bad thing. She should get the care she needs as long as she needs it.

Swelling in face and neck are going down a bit.
She’s able to use her phone a bit and texting.
Not sleeping well (I find it’s impossible to get any sleep in a hospital).
Supposed to come out of ICU tomorrow :crossed_fingers:

Thanks John. Hospital really is the worst place to try and get decent sleep. Hoping it improves for Pam tonight.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes and words of encouragement.
Today is day 5 in ICU and it’s been both hell and a godsend. I’ve spent most of my time on my back counting the ceiling tiles and seeing how many different ways I can divide them. I’ve been completely helpless and depend on the care of this army of nurses, which has been exceptional. So much so, it’s hard to get much sleep in before being aroused by a nurse doing her duties.
My dreams consist mainly of drinking refreshing beverages such as Sprite or 7up or ginger ale. I’m told that I may once again be able to do that, but will never eat solid food again. Oh well.
My big challenge here is communication with the nurses without speech. I’m somewhat surprised at how few of them know even the rudiments of sign language. However, somehow they manage to figure out what I’m trying to say.
Breathing through my neck is also something that’s taking getting used to. I sometimes sneeze or cough, and instinctively cover my nose or mouth. I’ll get used to it eventually.
REHAB: A team of physical therapists have been coming in for the past couple days and rousting me out of bed and helping me learn to walk again with the aid of a walker. A large chunk of tissue, muscle, and blood vessels were removed from my right thigh to use to reconstruct my esophagus and tongue, leaving my leg weak. It’s important that I regain mobility before they let me go home, which should be one day next week.
That’s all I have for now. Thanks to @John_E for keeping everyone informed.

So happy to hear from you so soon, and it sounds like things are progressing as they should. I really feel for you, and know what you are going through is tough, but you are doing it with grace and dignity. I hope you will be able to get rest soon, I am sure it is just as important as rehab. Looking forward to when you are able to go home, counting ceiling tiles can get boring after a few days. Stay strong (like you weren’t going to anyway).

@PamPurrs One thing that I have noticed since I joined, is that from bass to life, everything in between, and everything outside of it, you just seem to handle things so well. I hope for you the continued strength and relief that you emanate to others.

You are a real trooper!! Amazing!!

If you get tired of counting the tiles, run through some musical scores (or perhaps “just” arpeggios) in your head and imagine to fret and pluck along
