Multiple Bass Disorder (MBD)

Then it will most likely be the EBMM or MM Sterling pick up, cuz it also has a 3 way and does not work with a standard MM humbucker. So for shorties, you probably need to be looking at MM STERLING HUMBUCKERS

Actually, this is the pick up in the SBMM Shortscale

Sterling by Music Man Designed Neodymium Pickups (H)

This might be a good pick up, and like the Ray34, may not NEED to be replaced like the Ray 4 and Ray24.

That actually makes the SS more palatable at $550, or less if you can find a used one, but I don’t see them much 2nd hand.

Sorry I meant the EBMM has the 3-way switch.

SBMM Shorty still said 3 way selector

Switching 3-Way Rotary Selector

I think that is the same thing

Cool! So you can at least select split or not.

I think, like the EBMM Sterling (the only one I have for comparison) you can choose Series, Parallel or single coil (with a ghost coil for no hum).
Maybe Mike @itsratso can verify.

Edit: Yep

DYNAMIC TONE CONTROLS

The StingRay Short Scale features a neodymium humbucking pickup with 3-way rotary switch. The pickup configuration includes parallel, true single-coil, and series modes.

OK, plus on the SS it is a standard MM Humbucker.

On the EBMM Sterling model, it is a different pick up with additional options.

Switching Single Pickup - 3-way lever pickup selector; Dual Pickup - 5-way lever pickup selector
Pickups Standard - Music ManĀ® humbucking with ceramic magnets and hum canceling phantom coil; Optional - Dual Humbucking with ceramic magnets

I just clicked mine all the way to the left, parallel if I remember, because everybody said it’s the original ray setup and I liked it. never touched it again. seriously I would be happy with no controls at all.

mmmmmmmmmm

He doesn’t like controls cuz he plays so aggressive that he changes them as he plays.
As a bass player, I prefer the Joe Dart with just the volume pot. His is a simple and cool looking bass, love the wood grain and white pick up.

But Cliff Williams bass is pretty cool too. and I don’t usually like burst finish.

I almost never like the Stingrays without pickguards, but these two It doesn’t bother me.

Damn straight!

I had a terrifying dream I grabbed a guitar and a bass from GC then booked it out of there late at night, after breaking in. Then these 1940’s WWII sirens are going off and all these helicopters start swarming me.

I’m soiling my pants at this point thinking, ā€œall this over a couple of maple necks?!ā€

Thanks Pam @PamPurrs!!... Been busy putting my pacemaker to work to see if I can wear it out!!:rofl:. So many projects were pit on hold a year ago after I had my stent operation and the PM installed… Playing catch up over the last several months has resulted in a ton of finished projects along with a loss of about 60 lbs… All good!!

Keep on Thumpin’!

I hope you stick around more @Lanny. I’m working on a cover of a thumpin’ southern rock song by some boys from Jax, FLA. I think of you whenever I practice it.
