My First Pedalboard!

Hmmm. I’ll show myself out.

I think the Korg Pitchblack has the best looking display. That blue is soothing.

Good choice! Korg Pitchblack and Boss TU-3 are my two favorites.

I’ve got several clip-on tuners, but recently bought TC’s clip-on Unitune. I’m pretty happy with it. Should I be looking at a pedal tuner, though? And a strobe one at that? In what ways are they better?

(I guess in terms of pedal vs. clip-on as well as chromatic vs. strobe?)

Yep, clip-ons aren’t that accurate IMO.

If youre happy, then no… i found a stomp to be less finicky with the lowest notes and more accurate. Could i have practiced perfectly fine with the tc? Absolutely. The stomp was GAS, but i am happy with it.

I found the tc (both clip and pedal) to be the quickest and easiest to use. but, of course, I had to go out and get a strobostomp, because, umm me. and I’m having a hard time adapting to it. I mean, it’s fine. but…

If you’re doing your own setups then a good pedal tuner is very helpful for better intonation.
Tuning for playing, esp around the house, a good clip on is fine. 5-string is different and a pedal tuner is better for the B.

Thanks for the feedback! Never thought I’d be GASsing for a tuner pedal, but here we are.

Tuner GAS always gets you in the end.

I’ve yet to figure out why I’d ever need a full pedal board for bass. Other than a preamp that may allow me to add something my amp doesn’t produce or a compressor if it’s not already onboard after all these years I’m still pretty much a plug it straight in and play it bassist.

there’s that “need” word again

 Funny how that somehow works it’s way into otherwise perfectly normal conversations. I sincerely believe most of us passed our needs stage not long after we bought our first bass or guitar. From then on we exercise our God given right to own as many of the damn things as we choose.

It’s right there in the 28th Amendment. The one we can’t get passed because of all of the wives and girl friends opposed to it.

You don’t. It’s all about the fun of experimentation. Trying different things to see what you can do with it.

It’s highly unlikely I will ever be in a band. For me, part of keeping the fun going, is getting a new pedal and seeing what i can do with it and how it combines with other pedals.

If I was getting together with other people, I wouldn’t bring any of it unless a specific song called for it.

It’s started to become a collecting hobby for me. I like the artwork. I like just playing sounds I think are cool even if they have no use in any existing song. That starts to turn into composition.

The Ravish Sitar is good example of this. I want one just to play with and see what I can do with it.

It’s too much fun. It gets used to play Within You Without You around here. My wife likes the sitar better than the bass, so it’s good marketing for the importance of buying pedals.

Oh I know and far be it from me to spoil anyone’s fun.

But I have a family of four basses, eight guitars, and four amps to feed so there’s little $$$ left over for anything I can’t use to feed that addiction. How was I to know musical gear doesn’t qualify for SNAP benefits? :man_shrugging:

So there’s been a slight change to the board.

The Fuzz options in the Helix are pretty solid, so the Bass Big Muff is out and a Spaceman Meridian is in for the amazing variety of modulation effects it can provide.

Here’s the full board as it currently stands.
1/4" jacks on the left side of the board provide easy connection to the Amp and for Headphones.

Still to do: I want to fab up a mod for the side of the board that will allow me to easily connect a USB for DAI use.

Signal Path:
Line 6 G10 (wireless)
Empress Bass (Compressor)
Spaceman Polaris (Overdrive)
Spaceman Meridian (Modulation)
Line 6 HX Stomp XL (Multi effects - Headphone amp - DAI)
TAD 4xMOD (1/4" output to Amp and Headphones)

PSU: CIOKS DC7
Board: Temple Audio Design Duo 17
Cables: EBS
