Who’s with me?
Tell her the alternative is you spend a lot of time on Sweetwater or Thomann’s site and this site costs less
Go to a bar or Casino, see what she says then,
You’ve just created a brand new thread about spending too much time here.
She’s got a point.
Could be worse. Could be StringTensionBot 9000.
To wife: “I’m not cheating on you, or in an alley doing drugs, or gambling our life savings away…settle down Beavis”
It’s all about perspective.
Good point!
Yes! Whenever I mention a piece of gear I don’t have, she gets “the look.” I have to hurry up and tell her I don’t want to buy it, I just think it’s cool.
Touche!
So . . . I guess none of y’all have this problem.
There are certain things that should only be said to those who grok it. Otherwise, be prepared to face the consequences.
This is the consummate safe place for talking that shit.
My problem with this is I won’t lie to her. I’m not suggesting you are, just that if I mention a piece of gear to my wife I have every intention of buying it.
Well said!
I wouldn’t call it a problem per se. More like the classic Beasties line, “I got friends and enemies that I respect, when I get outta line they keep me in check”
I don’t even try to talk gear to my wife. Not that she couldn’t grasp it but because it’s so out of her sphere of experience and interest that it isn’t worth mentioning. She does like hearing about this forum and the rogue’s gallery of characters we have here. She’s into props more than gear.
My problem is my wife is a much more talented musician - R&B singer, piano and drums - than I am and is completely disinterested in music to the point of aversion
I’m pretty lucky, my wife doesn’t know I own any basses,
I totally get that.
For me it’s visual stuff: I work intensely with video, photography and graphics for my day job, on a daily basis. So when people ask me why I didn’t shoot video or take pics at a party, event, etc., the answer is simple: It’s because I’m off fucking duty. Aversion? Yeahhhh.
Yeah with my wife it’s more that she was forced to do it as a kid and resents the hell out of it - despite being so good her teacher was urging her to go pro
I understand it… but, it’s a real shame!
I hope she’s found other creative outlets instead!?
As for spending too much time on this (or other) fora/forums: it’s coming up on 6 years of bass playing for me and I am still hanging out in the “beginner” forum
There are worse ways to spend your time…
