New Ampeg SGT-DI Bass Preamp Pedal (versus ToneX?)

Indeed - it’s called the bypass switch :rofl::rofl:
My rig is very very clean to start, I don’t need other boxes for that. I honestly didn’t pay much attention to keeping the tone clean but will check it out. Can’t imagine it’s not going to color somewhat as it’s simulating ampeg amps and cabs at all times.

Considering what it is, I’m not surprised. I can’t imagine anyone buying it because it has “a really great clean sound”. If someone buys it, it’s because they want the Ampeg flavor.

The only reason I would buy any preamp would be the color I could get from it.

FUUUUUUUUUUDGE! I like the sound of this more than the Sansamp VT. Dangit.

So did I. I think it’s way better.

Definitely more feature rich, have you messed with the IR’s yet? Wondering if this is going to kill my DG B7K too.

The SGT does sound awesome and waaaaay more Ampeg than the SCR-DI, but I am kind of thinking the ToneX probably just made all other preamps in a similar price range obsolete. Basically need to go Helix or Quad Cortex to improve on what the ToneX does.

Just the ones in it and just the first three, the classic ones.
They are honestly enough for me.

As for the B7K, mine isn’t going anywhere.
I really like the grunt switch and the distortion and IRs can give a much more modern vibe if needed. I think I have only used an IR on it once, way way way too many choices between IRs and mics etc. I picked one I liked and never looked back.
And I also like it for what I call ‘clean klang’ tone.

The amp/cab sims on the ToneX sound better on what I could get out of the Helix IMO. Perhaps because it is the real deal? I imagine that the Kemper and QC are still above this in terms of quality.

Amplitube was never on my radar because I always thought they made cheap gimmicks. Guess I was wrong about the higher tier products. :man_shrugging:t2:

Yeah, this ain’t no iRig

The ToneX is exactly.what I would want in a preamp, if I wanted a pedal. Basically Amplitube in a box, plus Quad Cortex style profiling.

Why settle for one Ampeg preamp when you can have them all (plus all the G-K’s, Mesa Boogies, Fenders, Markbasses, and other popular bass amps) all in one pedal? With truly outstanding accurate modeling of those amps?

They should have called it “Bass in a Box.” It weighs about 9 lbs

@terb would you be kind enough to translate the French on the front of the box in the above picture?

Sure @eric.kiser , it means exactly the same thing than the line in english “the all-in-one bass box”. The word “caisson” is not the best choice for this translation (“boîte” would have been better), but it still means the same thing

Ampeg SGT vs Origin Effects.

I genuinely can’t hear the difference between his original 1969 B15 head and the SGT.

Same. That B15 sounded great on both units! He also forgot to mention that the SGT has 3 cab sims while the Bassrig only has one 8x10 cab sim via XLR. I bet he tested both on the 8x10 setting.

That B15 part is amazing, and the reason I went with the Ampeg Vs the Blue panel BassRig (which doesn’t have it at all.

SVT - The Ampeg sounded a lot more high end and not as much low end to me. The Bassrigs are bass heavy at noon, I’m generally turning it down on the black panel one I have. So leaving everything at noon is not a good apples to apples comparison. I’d have liked to see him try to dial both in as close to each other as he could then do comparisons.

They are both great pedals any way you slice it.

Would be interesting to try it against several SVT and B15 models in the ToneX. The ones in Amplitube are awesome.

I can confirm that those also sound amazing. Exceeded my expectations even. At this point I’m on the fence if I should sell all my amp in a box pedals or not…

I really see no reason to go with anything besides the ToneX, but I’m also heavily in to amp and cab sims. For me it’s exactly what I would want, were I interested in pedals at this point.

Hmmm… What will be in the box?
