It can also act as a audio interface. It’s a pretty sweet buy IMO.
They also capture pedals. So there’s that too. I’m kinda hoping that in the future they can combine the pedal captures with the amp/cab sims.

Plus a DI can be had for like $30 anyway, so yeah who cares
Yeah that’s an advantage of something like a Helix or QC (plus also the better user interfaces).
Yes! Just sorted this out this week.
Zillions of guitar things and loads of bass too.
Pedals you name it.
Best $99 I ever spend on Amplitube. With the TonNet thing it makes it without equal.
Yeah AmpliTube is awesome for sure. Really happy with it.
Based on what I’ve seen so far, it does way more than the tonex pedal and a lot easier to interact with. So unless you need (or want) a physical pedal, I’d not bother with it.
The pedal is just an extension of the ToneX plugin. Great for live gigs or for people that don’t want to sit behind a computer
Exactly.
My trouble with amplitube is you can spend the rest of your life playing with it
Yeah that’s the ‘problem’ with my HX Stomp. I’ve had to stop myself from spending hours just tweaking patches and play more. Not easy though.
Well, it fits and looks good, now to fiddle.
I do like that the cab sims not only go out the XLR but the main out 1/4” so the cab sims goes to my nice clean cab, unlike the B7K and BassRig that only go out the XLR.
Time to play finally.
John, I think you have just about covered every possible arrangement for tonal possibilities imaginable for the bass guitar! Nice set up! Let us know how she sounds. The Ampeg I mean. Maybe a cover or a lobster review are a possibility?
I just noticed that I apparently have a word of the day going on in my last reply. Apologies for this!
Nice! What is your first impression? In the EU we still need to wait a few week before it’s available
Just messed with it and it is exactly awesome, at least in my opinion.
The grit is excellent, doesn’t sound as ‘fake’ to me as the VT Bass DI, the cab sim options are great.
I was very quickly able to dial in a great Motown tone with my 61 P, an awesome KISS/Simmons SVT tone using the 8x10 and SVT settings, and FINALLY was able to get to where I was trying to go with the two string slide bass / Morphine tone. So for me - win/win/win.
The coolest part I think is how damn easy it is to dial in.
Maybe the VT Bass DI bite and loudness and dial for the character just didn’t jive with me but this pedal is very easy to get what’s in my head out of it.
And again, I LOVE that you can send the cab sim portion to the main out to my amp/cab.
My amp and cab are super super clean on purpose, and I get that in most cases no one wants a cab sim on top of their cab, but - I do. This alone is worth it to be as the 6 that come in it are great, and, you can overwrite 3 of them (the 1x15, 4x10 and 8x10 are fixed, they give you three other Ampeg combos that can be overwritten) with whatever IRs you want, so, if I ever need anything I don’t have across the board here I can (Orange, Marshall, whatever).
Anyone want to buy a VT Bass DI?
It’s up for sale.
The compressor in this thing is about as good and easy as a compressor can get IMO.
It sounds really good, and you can easily dial it in by ear and eye with the one LED.
I could totally see this as the DI you take to play with others for a whole lot of stuff.
Damn, I just need some folks to play with.
I finally watched Nate’s video on the pedal.
Did he go for the ‘let’s use every bass and riff we can that really doesn’t fit the bill with this pedal’?
I mean loads fo humbuckers, even nylon strings in one part, showcasing 60s and 70s tones.
SMH, not the right thing IMO.
That is possible, yes
The real problem here is you feel the need to stop
Yeah. I love Nate’s stuff but demoing an Ampeg pedal without trying a P-bass is just wrong.
@John_E Thanks for the in depth review. Can you get a good clean sound out of it also?
I liked Nate’s video. He showed off how the individual bass doesn’t matter. He can still get good sounds with whatever he put through it. If hos was the only one out there, that might be a problem. We can alwas count on Gregor for the P and J.
