New Bass or New Amp?

Eh. Far better amp sims and effects available in software on the PC

Damn you… window shopping BRB.

Oh I am not suggesting you do what I would do.

But you asked what I would do

I know… but these were also in my list.
The Katana still haunts me. I also have enough sound(while not crazy perfect) …

Well… crazy plans…

Adapter is basically for remote control of “tone studio”

Playing around with this list:

HS7 is pretty good but you might be happier with other brands. My JBL 305Pii’s have almost exactly the same response as the HS7, with 5.5” speakers. The Yamahas are not bad but I went with JBL’s over them. And there’s lots of other brands, a lot of people like KRK’s.

Also, all this is just what works for my workflow and interests. I am not trying to steer you that way. Most here would say you should go with the amp.

I know. But I like “discussing” with people that know more than I do.
For obvious reasons I don’t want to break the bank.

I love JBLs… and I have many JBL stuff… even my kids headphones are JBL, always loved their sound. The HS7 were there for a crazy day.

That idea is still doable… and with the M4, so I can also keep the JBLs(Balanced) behind me and keep the other Woofer + Satellite ones assembled.

1066€

But I could drop the Katana, upgrade to M6 and buy Parallax to modulate and simulate.

I am really not planning on gigging, just would love a better amp here for the office for when I am not at the PC.

(Basically… if I don’t think… and discuss alternatives with people that know more… I will end up overspending!)

828€ + 115€ Parallax.

For you I would suggest the larger JBLs, I just have the 305’s due to space. 306 or 308 would be better for you.

I am actually running out of space here around the PC… I have added a backdrop because of calls and for a greenscreen for some training ideas coming forward… still trying to build that part… and learning how to work with one and dynamics.

And 306 I would consider… but they are 150€ more… just for a bit more size., but it’s only 10€ difference to the HS7.

I can just stay with the 305s atm and who knows… maybe at a later date add the 308s!

Thanks for the input! Will put this order in tomorrow… just need to recheck if I have enough TRS cables, etc.

If you are going there at that price point have you check out the Zoom Livetrak 8? My old fashion side is definitely favor the Livetrak.

Can’t say anything about that, but not totally unrelated: I have a (very very subjective) feeling, that recordings with my cheapo Zoom AMS-24 sound better than with my Motu M4.

I don’t know why, and the Motu is very good, but the AMS recordings I make in the park sound somehow very “faithful” and it`s much more forgiving in terms of setting gain … though I can set gain on the Motu M4 much more precisely…

I wish it weren’t true, as I look at my Motu and ask myself why I paid so much for that!?

I have nothing but great experience with my Q8N 4K. The audio flexibility and options is off the chart. I have not notice any latency issues and I have never experienced any issues with latency when recording and monitoring. It seems to be the M6 major selling point.

I didn’t have any issue with my 3rd gen 2i2 so it stays for now. It’s a blessing that I don’t have time to do full production home recording. :joy:

Zoom make good gear for a great price. It’s not usually the best but is almost always solid.

My first multi-effect was the Zoom 9002, remember that gem? We recorded so many demos on that Zoom. It’s such an awesome unit, add that to a few of the Boss half rack micro effect, we felt like a pro,

I second this. I’m using a zoom U24 and it’s affordable and worked perfectly from the get go.

Loved mine. Really love having all the inputs and outputs on top like a mixer.

@Megatronpt - so, after the Zoom discussion and some nice playing in the park, I spent some time trying to find out why the Zoom sounds better than the Motu.

I had a 2nd issue: when playing at lower speeds (70%-80% and lower), the background audio sounded really bad (crackling etc.) on my Motu M4, but ok on my Zoom AMS-24.

I know the Motu hardware is good, so it must be software (ASIO driver) or settings.
Another look at the ASIO config, and I saw the “Use lower latency safety offsets” setting enabled. I did this a long time ago and didn’t think about that anymore.
It’s supposed to be a good thing, but in my case it likely caused the issues I noticed.
So, if you get the Motu M6 and are not happy: try disabling this (even on a fast PC).

Just found this out and need to test a little more. But first impression is great!

Sorry for late reply, was on honeymoon!

Monitor’s running on External power supply yes.
Have not changed it yet, nor the HDMI cable it has that plugs in to my Mac. Will try that.
Thanks again for all the very helpful advice!!!

Sound quality improved on M6… a bit.

Noise still there… but WAY lower.

Seems worse with BDI - XLR - M6 than Bass - 6.5 TS - M6.

But I just installed and barely tested in calls for the next 2h

Did you test with and without power supply? What does the “noise” sound like?
