My name is Antoine Lamarque and I build guitars, basses and pickups in Paisley, Scotland.
I’ve recently designed a humbucker for Jazz Bass. They’re called ‘Short-Range Humbuckers’ and they’re a little bit different to everything else on the market right now.
They were reviewed by Bass The World on youtube which is the best place to hear some sound samples.
I’m trying to get them out in the wild so I’m offering a 50% discount on my online store so a set of these pickups is now £97.50 with worldwide shipping included. It’s a tough time of year to ask people to spend £195 on pickups from an unknown builder so hopefully the discount along with 30 day returns will be enough to encourage people to give them a try.
I see that I can’t include links so please search for Lamarque Guitars and you’ll be able to find my online store or search for Bass the World on youtube and you’ll see the video review ‘HUMBUCKER FOR YOUR JAZZ BASS’
@Lamarque_Guitars Hello Antoine. Welcome to BassBuzz. I started the following thread 2 weeks ago about your pickups. You might want to review the posts in that thread and comment if you see fit.
When I went to purchase a set for my old 2012 MIM reissue of my first bass, a 1963 Fender Jazz, at checkout, £20 was added for shipping and £0 for French VAT. I thought that maybe the Shipping and VAT were reversed since French VAT is 20%, but then I clicked through to the payment entry page and “Economy Shipping” for £20 was selected. Your product page says “Free worldwide shipping”, so I abandoned the purchase until you can provide clarification. The discount is excellent, but claiming free shipping and then adding £20 for shipping might cause others to abandon their purchase like I did…for now.
Hmmmm … my current EMG setup is absolutely perfect, so I won’t change that anymore.
I just realized that I am done modding, in terms of replacing pickups. I feel empty now
Sorry for the shipping chargers. I’ve gone and changed it to free worldwide shipping. If you encounter any other issues please let me know. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
’Short-Range’ was inspired by Fender’s ‘Wide-Range’ humbuckers from the 1970s. They also used the term 'Wide-Range’ to describe the Jazzmaster singlecoils in the old brochures. Basically these humbuckers pick up the vibrations from a relatively short area (range) of the string due to the fact that Jazz Basses have narrow pickup cavities. PRS call their slim humbuckers narrowfields so it’s the same idea
I’m new to this forum and forums in general. If anything I post breaks any rules etc please let me know and I will amend my posts to fit within the guidelines.
Also, we have a new 2026 “Introduce Yourself” thread. How about posting there and letting us know something about you, your interests (especially bass-related), and how you got into the business of building pickups.
Also note that this forum is the community site for @JoshFossgreen ‘s superb “Beginner to Badass” bass course. It’s not a product sales site, although what you posted complimented a thread I previously started. So, mostly, posting here is about your bass PLAYING and BUYING.
