I am also sober now, so I can’t say its sturdiness has been fully vetted.

I finally got a stand, so I can stop having to leave my bass sitting on a pillow leaning against the wall, or just lying down on the table.

I made ‘fake’ frames, used the Hercules hangers (they have special foam not to ruin nitro finishes)… i have a humidifier set at 40%, and refill it once a week. All quick easy access now - the cheaper stands can ruin the body finish on the butt - so keep an eye on those that dont say "Nitro safe’. Cheers

Thanks Joe - yeah i suppose my graphics trade is at fault. lol If i had it MY way, the whole wall would have been a large format print in black n white of 70’s era KISS concert - the wife nearly had a coronary when she saw my plan. haha

I have 6.
4 are hanging on the wall in “proper” holders. They get dusted daily and played for at least 10 minutes each every week. Once a month they get a more thorough cleaning.
The other two are in stands in my practice area. They get used every day and are wiped after each use.
I’m lucky that the climate control in my home is very stable concerning humidity and temperature.
If I’m going to be gone for any length of time, I detune a bit, put them in cases and store them in a locked room.

I am just curious, and not trying to start any arguments here, but for those that have Basses on the wall, and have Basses in single stands, triple stands, 3,5,7,9 stand up racks,
Do you tend to play the basses in the racks more then the ones on the wall?
I am just curious, as I really love the wall art of Basses, I am just curious myself, If I were to mount any to a wall, if I would leave them unplayed more often?

My gut feeling is that I, me, myself, would play them less, but I am not sure

I use my Hofner with a pick for the Beatle songs I want to learn, the Hamer for all others and the Washburn I take with me when I travel because I won’t cry as much if something happens to it while traveling. I also use the Washburn when trying a new song to see if it sounds better for that particular tune.

Mine used to be on a stand in my home office, but now is on a wall hanger in the closet, but I still look for it and grab it. I’d love to have it on display, but just not enough room.

Yeah, fully get the space issue.
I was more thinking of people who have them hanging & on a stand or other way to keep it out at arms reach or so.

If your only bass is hanging, in the closet or on display, I get you are going to play it as often as you do play.

Sorry for the noob question. I guess the answer is its not a problem (else people wouldn’t do it) but I’ve been wondering whether hanging a bass from the headstock runs any risk of stressing the headstock or the joint between neck and body of the bass, with the weight of the bass pulling down without bottom support?

That’s a very good point.

Yeah, I imagine the weight of the bass would be a factor too, and older, heavier Basses may be more prone to warp / damage. Then again, things are not built like they used to be…

Sorry for the tardy response - i play all of the wall ones AND the ones on my stand - i guess i pick from the wall first though - certain tones inspire me differently day to day…so SEEING them, generates the mood quicker i guess.

Nope - never had an issue - not keeping enough humidity is the biggest issue AFAIK

nahh - most music stores have guitars and basses hanging from heads every day - if there was an issue, they wouldnt display them like that. Leaving them in a case - no humidity, drying out and having fret sprout would be more concerning too me - and also sitting them in a rack, leaned against the neck on an angle, and the bass weight sitting on foam - unless the foam is nitro friendly, you’ll get more issues that way. (IMO)

Yeah, I like to be able to see the basses as well. I can sit in the room, look at them, and go, “What do I want to play?”, “Ah yeah, cool - right, in that case - scans the basses - that one”

Sounds about right!

Hi @quadfather,
I agree with just sitting in the room looking at them, they are artwork :sunglasses::+1:
