Offline Videos from Beginner to Badass?

Hey y’all! I’m going camping for a week in Big Sur and I’m bringing my bass and my vox headphone amp, service is spotty so I’m wondering is there a way to download some of the modules of beginner to badass on my laptop so I can continue my lessons while being offline for the week?

I seriously doubt it. The videos are on a private host, not YT, with no download option. Makes complete sense since it’s a paid product that he doesn’t want pirated.

In fact it is possible, but it would be unfair to post the solution - cause of the very reason you wrote: it should not be pirated!

Exactly this.

@TheJosh can’t you take your phone and do the lessons through it?
I usually take a laptop / phone every where I go and tethering solves most my “need for offline” issues.

There used to be a DVD option, but that was discontinued.

Using your phone’s Hot Spot feature is a great way, and sometimes the only way, to go. Make sure you have a plan with a sufficient mobile data limit. Going over that limit will lead to either heavily reduced throughput data rates or very high charges or both. Most carriers allow you to purchase addition data volume for short term use.

I even have to use my phone’s hot spot feature at home where I have a 2 gigabit fiber connection. Why? Because my Fender Rumble Studio 40 accepts a maximum of 16 characters for the WiFi password, and my fiber router’s password (that I can’t change) is 20 characters. I can’t tell you how much fun it was to key that into my wireless printer. :grimacing:

Ah… Data Limits.
Didn’t remember that… I don’t have to worry about that, but yeah… 2h of video will kill many data plans.

You can buy a Mesh system and completely replace the network created by your router… and then create an IoT only subnetwork for printers and whatnot.

This should bypass you character limitation. Have a look at that!

Some reading here: Need help understanding IoT network and isolation - Home Network Community

One of the benefits of this Isolation is that usually smart lights, printers, etc, are slower devices… and with that they can completely impact the overall performance of the network. WiFi is a shared network, which means that a slower device, will most likely slow down your faster devices.

Thanks for the heads-up. I’ll check it out.

I already have one range extender. Even in my small 55 m2 apartment, I get almost no wifi signal in my studio (formerly the 2nd bedroom) due to the wall construction making each room effectively a Faraday cage.

I’ll say it, two words…

Screen record.
It’s not a secret, and you are not using it for dubious reasons.

Which suffers from quality loss due to re-encoding … and takes quite some time…

@JoshFossgreen This would be a good feature for your members! Offline mode.
Not sure the best way to go about it, but would be good for such occasions. Maybe there just isn’t enough interest.

@John_E - nothing is faster and guarantees quality better than a direct download.
Recording video from screen has many disadvantages (re-encoding. non-matching frame rate, scaling due to non-fitting resolution, volume issues, all kinds of artifacts).
Many non-experts do that, I know. It should only be last resort if there are no other alternatives.
But there are…

my phone wont haven’t Internet so that means my computer wont either

You can download the backing tracks from the lessons and the tabs and have a self-guided practice time. All those are found in the extras section.

I think for the OP’s application, it will do fine.

Thanks for all the comments, I’m gonna download some backing tracks and screen record a couple lessons to get me through the week while off grid.

A very good tool for screen recording is OBS. It’s a little complicated, but I’m sure you’ll find some simple how-to’s on the internet.

I find it gives you the best quality …and it’s free.

Hey all! Yeah, there is no official download option at the moment. I would love to offer it but there are some complexities to doing so, and it def won’t be ready in time for your camping week. :japanese_ogre:

Have fun at Big Sur! I grew up in Sonoma County and I’ve still never really been there, kinda nuts.
