Oh Hilary!

I was talking bass on the phone with @booker_t when the quake hit. Bizarre.

The way it works here in Typhoon Season (i.e. now) is that just before the typhoon, as the high pressure area ahead of it rolls through, it gets unusually nice and very hot. It also sometimes smells kind of odd, like sweet and hot, hard to describe - not bad, just different. Then there are light rains. Then in the next day or three, it’s raining sideways with huge wind and you read about the flood and mudslide evacuations (if you’re lucky).

I think they’re referring primarily to flooding effects. The roads in Baja supposedly became rivers.

Imagine how messed up you could’ve been … “and I heard his last breath, as that 12 pound Fender…”

That’s gonna be insanely nasty to clean up. Yuck.

LOL no kidding. Also I just realized I have never seen San Diego without really mellow weather. I wonder what it will be like there in a serious storm.

Good news is it just got downgraded to Tropical Storm. It would still be called a Typhoon here though. Still, hopefully mellowed out a bit.

Don’t ever want that to happen! :exploding_head:

A tropical storm is not anything to take lightly. It doesn’t pack the wind damage of a hurricane, but the rain can often be just as heavy. Steer clear of low-lying areas around you. And keep your cars in the driveway or garage.

The unfortunate souls who parked on that street in Baja are going be playing “Dude, where’s my car?” for the next few weeks. No fun at all.

Yeah, we get them on the regular here. One here last weekend in fact.

In Austin, we’re far enough away from the coast that we get the residual effects of hurricanes very often. Folks from Houston, Galveston, and East Texas in general come to our Central Texas Hill Country to escape the weather. Hotels and restaurants appreciate the business, and busy, things do get.

I still kind of can’t believe some settler made it to Galveston way back and thought “Yep, this is it. The perfect place for a city.”

The rest of the Houston area is a bit less obvious but Galveston… alcohol was involved.

Oh, hells yes, alcohol was involved. And gambling. And prostitution. And you name it.

The first ones to hit on Galveston were pirates. The rest writes itself.

The brothers Lafitte left quite a smoldering legacy.

Been watching it on the TV and what’s being shown is pretty full on!
We’re on the opposite end of the scale here. No rain for 100+ days and nothing due in the foreseeable future

I heard earlier Death Valley got almost 2" of rain today, usually they got 100th of an inch of rain each season, lol.

That’s our story, too. We haven’t had a single day below 100 degrees (F) since Spring. We’ve hit 108 degrees F here several times in the last few weeks. Supposedly, there’s a 50% chance of rain on Tuesday. Yeah, right. It’s Sunday here. I’ll start holding my breath…now.

Things are fantastic…considering I live in Atlanta.
