Got a point there.
I’d have a nice collection of expensive basses by now.
I love DCS with my Oculus. I “can” fly L39, F15 and F16 (carrier landings, damn) in hardcore realism mode. I fiddled a bit with my stream deck, so I have a lot: opening of valves, flaps angles, setting pressure etc. on stream-deck. Some planes need “dark magic” ritual to start up. But! A good dogfight in 4th gen. fighter, when both pilots know physics and know what the plane can withstand, in VR, with HOTAS and pedals, it’s extremely satisfying and … really tiring. And I love Sturmovik 2 for those WW2 YOLO dogfights. ![]()
Yeah, I’ve learned to back sweeten and and more flavor prior to bottling. Each batch is unique with side flavors.
I’m a road cyclist. This has been my passion since a child, although with 15 year hiatus for smoking, drinking and generally eating too much! I gave up the cigarettes 20 years ago and lost a load of weight, when I rekindled the love of the bike. I also gave up all alcohol four years ago as getting up at 5am to the train for and ride the kind of events I like (I’ve Everested 3 times), family life and work etc. are really not compatible with a hangover!
I fear that starting to play the the bass is going to be like my love of bikes. My wife once gave me four hooks for the garage, one for each bike … there are now more bikes in there than hooks, my jersey collection is out of control and my cycling shoe collection would put Imelda Marcos to shame. I can see basses and bass gear going the same way, seems n+1 is a fairly ubiquitous rule ![]()
Speak for yourself. The Cult Mechanicus are on to something. I’ve worked in tech long enough to know with 100% certainty that machine spirits are real and must be appeased and accounted for with any deployment or operation. ![]()
J just turned 35 in August. Sorry y’all I’m so busy with my 11 and 16 year old home schooling working and finding time to play my bass. My daughter is tournaments right now for softball she’s a catcher, and my son’s busy with his airsoft and paintball. They keep me busy.
Wow!!!
Yep. I always keep a hammer beside my computer. As soon as it starts acting up, I pick it up meaningfully and say “Smarten up or it’s percussive maintenance for you”. It works!
So not oil and incenses? You adhere more to the old school mechanicus creed!
Yessir! I’m a grumpyoldmanian mistechnope.

I scratch build RC gliders. Heres one i made from some surfboard foam cutoffs a friend gave me.
Any of you computer types know how to do the following?
I am thinking a raspberry pi thingy might be the way, but, having no experience with them I am not sure…
I want to be able to push a physical button (on some stand alone device) that then plays one of 10 audio files randomly.
I can’t use my phone and rather not a PC due to costs, and obviously needs to be able to interface with a speaker of some sort.
Raspberry Pi might be overkill. Depending on your skills with electronics and whatnot, I’d look into an Arduino as a possibility. There’s a HUGE community where someone would likely throw together the code you’re looking for.
I think the Roland AR-3000 does random file playback on contact closure.
maybe some cheap out of date little mp3 player with a random shuffle function? (should cost next to nothing)
If you need something still in production for maintenance and spares, this also does what you want . . .
Thanks. This looks interesting and fun
This will also do it. It is sold as a companion to the Arduino, but it has a play random function stand alone on board. I just bought one to have my own sounds on an alarm clock.
Well that’s amazing! And so cheap!
How do you connect it to a speaker?
