Interesting. I bought some Stringjoy strings not a month ago and they were in individual envelopes
I have a set of the EB cobalt’s in my desk drawer at home just waiting for my OEM’s to wear out…
Probably very well. Excellent low end punch and top end sing
DR Hi Beams sound great on the red GT. My preset on the B6 called “Thicc” using the DarkPre sounds very, very good for aggressive/slightly dirty sounds especially when slapped. Very, very close to say, Kiyoshi sometimes. Listen to Hero and it’s maybe slightly less dirty than that.
D’Addario Pro Steels on the other GT. Fairly similar, but the Pro Steels are harsher on the highs imo. Tameable with the high EQ knob, though. They came TIGHTLY coiled to the point the B string was kinked/bent a little. They are even stickier than the DRs, though, so I will probably not be continuing my relationship with D’Addario in the future
But I like SS strings on these basses. They rowdy AF now lol
Alcohol on a rag, run it up and down the string, no more sticky
I’d used my Stringjoy “string conditioner” to some success, I’ll probably give the alcohol a shot; it makes sense. Thanks!
I imagine that if they thought you’d like their answer, they’d be shouting it from the rooftops…
This. I messaged them on their site and hit them up on Twitter
Oh yeah, two things I noticed between the D’Adarrio and DR strings. With the DRs, I didn’t even think about it and went string-thru body on the red GT. The D’Adarrio strings, the B and E were not long enough; the taper was just before the nut, so I had to do those through the bridge and the B was really hard to get seated properly. The remaining three strings I did thru-body and the tapers were fine
Also, the D’Adarrio strings were coiled so f’ing tightly the B had a kink in it -_- I will likely not be using D’Addario for my stainless steel string needs in the future when these wear out. The DR Hi Beams are just so much better in every way, at least on these particular basses.
The red one I need to check the bridge pickup height, its bridge pickup is much more quiet than the purple one. Hopefully it isn’t the pickup itself…
Stringjoy literally just emailed me about their Ranger line of stainless steel bass strings.
I swear to god life is out to get me sometimes lol.
I saw a Ranger email this morning but didn’t read yet. Going to now
Ordered a set of Rangers. Will try them out.
Also my Fralin pickup was delivered today so trying to find time to go pick it up
No time for Wheel of Fortune tonight, I got a bass to version up
I have stayed away from stringjoy and live vicariously through your exploits. I actually think you are very much on the right path dialing in your strings with so much attention, but if I dip my toe in I know I’ll be sucked in like you and my brain can’t take it yet. Lol.
My wallet is also unhappy
I am just stupid When I put the purple one back together (removed the Mike Pope preamp) apparently I put the knobs in the wrong spot from stock. So I was not adjusting what I thought I was adjusting. Bridge pickup is fine
But this rowdy aggressive sound with the stainless strings sounds best with just the P/Neck pickup anyway, tbh. I may play with mixing in the bridge and lowering treble… now that I know which knob is which
What’s that piece of fabric or whatever kind of underneath your pickups?
It’s called finger ramp. Sometimes a flat piece of wood but usually radius to slightly wider or the same radius as your fingerboard. It helps with your finger to string contact and comes in very handy when you play fast in some ways it prevents your fingers from digging in to the strings and kill the speed.
Stainless steel flats
I’m curious about this set for my GWB35 now…
Labella’s Deep Talking Flats and Fender Flats are both stainless steel you know
I did not, clearly.
