Personally, I’m a “pie guy”. Cake just doesn’t do it for me. I mean, some are ok, like a dulce-de-leche cake with butter cream frosting, but generally I’d rather have a nice apple pie than cake any day.

As a kid, I always asked my mother for a birthday apple pie instead of a cake.
I like cake. I love a really good apple pie any day of the week.

Like both, prefer pie 
Pecan pie, sweet potato pie, and pumpkin pie would be my faves, in order. Then blackberry and apple close behind.
And don’t forget about good southern-style cobbler.
